Milestones aren’t always about geocaching. On February 19 fifty years ago, Team Sloughfoot became a team at the church where GC1V98A is located. OK, fifty years ago there was no geocaching, so there was no Team Sloughfoot and no cache at the church, but that’s where John and Gail got married, and they have been celebrating ever since, including at an open house for family and friends today (January 31). Joining them were their one son, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren… plus many, many other relatives in their extended families.
You may have met John and Gail at a caching event at some point; if not, you most likely have done some of their hides, either in the Fox Valley before they retired to the Big Slough, or the many they have placed in the Portage/Dells area… “Confederate Spy”… “Sloughfoot Does the Dells”… “Hole in the Wall”… or their epic series, “The Trail of the Serpent” strung out along the Fox River. They also adopted many of The Lil Otter’s caches when she stepped back from active caching, plus those of bugsmasher69 when he passed away a few years ago. Most recently, their hides have been in Portage city parks and along Columbia County bike trails, and while you make think some of those are park and grabs, they are not. Read the cache pages, appreciate the containers and hiding techniques, and write appreciative logs for all that they have done for Wisconsin caching over these past ten-plus years.
Enjoy the photos below that they have let me share here, and join me in congratulating John and Gail on their golden wedding anniversary… a true milestone!

01/31/2016 at 5:48 pm #2046651Wow! Fifty years> You two look great. That makes me feel good since we are just a little over a year from that milestone. I hope we still look “young” like you then. Looking forward to getting to the Portage area to do some of your hides after we retire in May. Happy Anniversary!!!

02/01/2016 at 2:07 pm #2046679WTG Gail and John have not seen you two in a while but I know our paths will cross again soon.
Congrats Melissa and I are only half way to 50 LOL
02/01/2016 at 2:49 pm #2046680Congratulations Gail and John! And to think I knew you sometime between the first two pictures, and then met you again sometime between the second two pictures! All the best to you in the non-caching side of life as well 🙂
02/01/2016 at 3:22 pm #2046681Congratulations to John and Gail on a truly golden milestone, one that means way more than a bunch of smileys!
02/02/2016 at 6:43 pm #2046755Wow, if we ever need a publicist, we are hiring Pat. We both are blushing from the nice comments. At our party, my brother asked me who the people were at one of the tables, and I said it was our geocaching family, and that is what you all feel like to us. Thank you for the kind thoughts.
02/03/2016 at 8:06 am #2046770Congratulations! That is a very admirable milestone!
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.
