We have the annual meeting in a little under 2 weeks. What do you, the members have on your minds?
New events, new WGA Cache Series… let us know!
At our yearly meeting on March 5th, we frame up the 2016 year and we’d like to know where we should focus our efforts next.

02/23/2016 at 5:26 pm #2047190It would be nice to know as soon as possible where the fall picnic is in case we want to stay in the are for the weekend or longer. I know others like to make short vacations for the picnic. Reservations can be hard to get in September if you wait too long.
02/23/2016 at 7:20 pm #2047191Chris I had already mentioned to you a topic when we were at the chili feed. But here’s one more topic – a seminar day of geocaching-related topics.
02/23/2016 at 7:57 pm #2047193🙂 Good questions.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

02/23/2016 at 8:39 pm #2047195Yes – a seminar, especially for GSAK related topics. How about encouragement to create a Geoart to spell out WGA somewhere in the state?

That’s the spring campout.
02/23/2016 at 9:36 pm #2047201Got it Bill, it’s on the agenda and we’ll post an announcement after we choose a spot.

02/24/2016 at 8:41 am #2047211From the WGA bylaws…
“Article II: Purposes The purposes of the WGA are to:
1. Work as closely as possible with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and other property management officials to protect the rights of individuals to geocache in the state of Wisconsin.
2. Provide an opportunity for geocachers in the State of Wisconsin to gather and socialize with one another.
3. Promote the “Cache In Trash Out” and “Leave No Trace” programs to help in the maintenance of parks and trail systems.
4. Educate Wisconsin geocachers about the responsible use of natural resources and educate non-geocachers about the sport of geocaching.”
Items #2 and #3 are well-taken care of, and #4 somewhat, but what about #1? Perhaps the WGA can work with the DOT to allow new caches in the state’s waysides and rest areas. As a start, maybe the WGA can offer to place and monitor those caches if the DOT has reservations.
02/24/2016 at 8:52 am #2047212Discuss ways to get purchased WGA merchandise to its members without them having to attend a WGA function. Perhaps a BOD member could take on this responsibility, or even an ongoing “unofficial” if a system gets developed. The WGA has members in all parts of Wisconsin, and there are many past members and even WGA fans who do not live in Wisconsin who may want WGA merchandise.
Also, there has not been a new WGA geocoin since 2012, and it would be nice to have general (but with eye-catching designs) WGA pathtags offered on an ongoing basis.

02/24/2016 at 4:46 pm #2047220I’m wondering why the WGA website doesn’t have the activity it used to have. Has some of the content that was removed effect that? Is there a way to promote it to new cachers who may not be aware of it? I’d think it’s a valuable tool for them if they have questions about the “game”, gps units, GSAK, etc. I definitely think we need more WISCONSIN caching topics to make it more interesting.

Not to sidetrack the ides, but what content is missing?
When TBC rebuilt this from scratch I’d heard there were a couple modules that didn’t get carried over as they did not have any activity. I also think that in the last yr, I have forgotten whatever there used to be. Cannot promise their return as it is up to the programmers/webmasters to see if it is possible or really needed but let’s hear what is missing. I know a nametag module is missing but not everyone was able to see that on the old site.

02/25/2016 at 12:40 pm #2047237Is there value in having a repository of puzzle solve info, GSAK presentations, Geo101 presentations? We did use to have these as “stickies” for viewing but most were beyond current and helpful.

02/25/2016 at 1:31 pm #2047240I did add GSAK Presentations to the agenda. We also have the Geocaching 101 presentation this year in Cornell to talk about maybe we can broaden that conversation to have a few more around the state if possible.
