It is Springtime in Wisconsin so that means on top of the crocus and daffodils blooming, we should be ready for a 10 inch snow. It is that awkward time of year where the snowblower and the lawnmower both are in play.
Back on March 5th, the WGA board of Directors met to plan out our To Do list for 2016. Did you know that with this latest election, the 9 of us span the state from Waukesha to Oshkosh, to Wild Rose, Neenah, Sturgeon Bay to Washburn waaaaay up north, down on the west side to Bruce, Eau Claire, and Sparta. The WGA has never had such a diverse group on the Board.
Coming out of the annual meeting, we came up with a few cool things for this year. We asked what you the members wanted done and we tossed in a few ideas and *BAM* we have a plan, of which a couple items will stay secret until we work out the final plans but it will be worth the wait. Ok, one little tidbit is the WBCB would be the place to first pick this up, outside of that I have to keep quiet or the others will rough me up.
Coming up, it will be CITO time here in just a couple of weeks. As you know, for the past 13 years, cachers around the world have celebrated International Cache In Trash Out weekend annually by hosting and participating in Cache In Trash Out Events in their local area. This year, GC HQ is spreading it out a little more by extending the CITO celebration to two entire weeks. You can grab a CITO Smiley/Souvenir from April 16 – 24. Do not forget, WGA members can ask for sponsorship of their hosted CITO event for up to $150 towards swag and supplies. All you need to do in contact a WGA BOD with your request, we place a Motion and take it from there. We agree to sponsor up to 6 CITOs (or maybe more if they all don’t use the full allotment) so let us know soon if you would like us to help.
Another thing that several of you mentioned to us was having Geo101, Geo201 (Train the Trainer), GSAK seminars and presentations available through the website and at events. We are working on having these presentations available through the website or some other hosting site and hope to have several opportunities for you to join a seminar at an event this year. Toss in the seminars listed above, we hope to add a GSAK seminar and presentation to the mix to better give you, the members, the tools you want and need.
Also, do not forget to list your Will Attends for GC6CDZD 2016 WGA Geo-Campout. Soon we will open up the WGA store on the website (www.wi-geocaching.com) and you will be able to reserve your spot in the group sites we have reserved. Sevencards, silyngufy, hack1of2 and Ranger Boy are all hiding caches for the event in the Kettle Moraine Southern Unit. This sounds like it could be the year of Multis! For years, an annual event held at the campout is the Saturday night caches. They will be back this year so start thinking up those special temporary caches- the normal rules do not apply so unleash the hounds of creativity. Lasers, drones, zombies or clowns all could be part of this unique WGA event. The only limits are the creativity of the placers.
Oh, one last thing…and remember, you heard it here first. The Fall Picnic this year will be in the Southwest quadrant of the state and we picked a spot that the WGA has never visited before for an event. Mark your calendars for September 24th, 2016 for 2016 WGA Fall Picnic at Black River State Forest near Black River Falls, WI.
