Well geocaching.com missed the boat on this Pikachu Go app where people find virtual monsters. I guess the WGA better make a virtual geocache app like this. We could make enough money to fly all our members to international events. Some could be in Wisconsin. Well, get on that thing.

Where do I start with this?

My first comment is this : you are a WGA board member right? *get on that thing?* So how about being part of the solution? If you have ideas as to how to make this happen, bring it up. It is a fantastic app, and a lot of fun. I don’t mind admitting that. My husband and I spend quite a bit of time playing it…lots of fun.

Secondly, money making?  I’m not sure how this is important…WGA is non-profit right? I donate money where I can and purchase many items to help contribute…not sure where this money making comment comes in.  Care to explain?

    Third, it’s Pokémon Go.

Ever just just want to have a little fun?

First I am a board member that is why I found the first comment ironic and a bit silly pretending to put pressure on the board.

Secondly do you think that we get everything for free. It cost money to rent shelters, support events, fund citos and all that fun stuff taken for granted. If we had more funds we could expand what we do to benefit the WGA even more. Maybe help sponsor after school geocaching programs with GPS Units. Ideas like that and many more happen with money.

    Third it is Pokemon Go.

There was more to the post like changing it to Pokemon and some pictures attached but using my phone to post must not have made the changes like I thought it did.

So if I’m to understand this correctly, a WGA member should develop a mobile app that incorporates geocaching and augmented reality similar to the Pokémon Go app.  Then they should turn over all rights and royalties to the WGA since they are a member and it would be nice of them to do that.  I don’t see that happening.

The most glaring issue I see with this would be that developing an app that takes someone out into a map based environment, to search out things in the real world, to be awarded virtual prizes kind of seems redundant.  The way I see it, geocaching.com already released an augmented reality app when they made it possible to cache from your smartphone.  The user uses the app to venture out into the real world to find things on the map, and are rewarded with a virtual prize, the smiley. If anything, Pokémon Go is an adaptation of geocaching where there doesn’t have to be anything physical to find, just a randomly generated monster.

Both of these games are great fun and can even be played at the same time.  They have their differences, but they share a common goal, get people outside, moving and meeting others.  I think we can come up with better ways of funding our organization.

Sarcasm is so eloquent in written word.  Kind of turns what is a relevant topic of turning Pokémon Go players onto geocaching into a hot debate.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Northwoods!

In an attempt to spur some new discussion on the WGA forum his silliness and sarcasm was misunderstood. Thanks Michael for putting something out there that started discussion.

Zeeman_Clan you win the No Prize which is highly sought out. Thanks to all that have now proven that there is more to the Forums that Thread Stealers. Kinda reminds me of 2010 here on the forums.

    I like it!
