On a mission to complete the Mathman 4th Anniversary series. This is the conclusion of the log spanning 4-1, 4-2, and 4-3, and The Final.

I’m disinclined to marsh-whack, so I’m glad there was a trail
Leading out into the hinterlands to reach this Holy Grail
“Trail” a term that’s loosely used; they’re sometimes more like bogs
You’ll know our feelings better if you read our other logs

I tried to reach the ammo can, beyond my fingertips
I tried from every angle; tried to hook it with a stick
I finally had to monkey up and climb inside the tree
That attribute was missing from this little ‘Mystery’

The cache was dry; we signed the log; and wiped our sweat and tears
And rescued a trapped TB that was stuck here for three years
That there’s a perfect time to do this series I won’t deny
But whenever that is, I’m damn sure that it’s not in late July.

    Thanks for the series

On a mission to complete the Mathman 4th Anniversary series. This is a continuation from our log on 4-2.

To walk this far on trails like this is mentally not sound
But though it’s mostly rocks and ruts, at least it’s higher ground
The find was quick and easy, and was at the very tree
Where I DNF’d last winter, buried deep in the the debris

I dug and clawed through punky guck and came out with the goods
I understand now how I missed this micro in the woods
The cache says, ‘Winter friendly’ but if you’ll take our advice
Forget the snow and wait for spring; you’ll just come out here twice

There was probably a time when all these trails were fresh and new
And walking was more pleasant, and the caching more fun too!
But if you reach this nugget on your single-minded track
Your only just reward is that you get to head right back

This would be a good add for the WGA Newsletter 🙂

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

i only looked at these two as they were on lonely caches, the rest of their finds that trip may also be poetic. also not sure I have them in the correct order.

Not all of their logs are poetic. Here’s one that they recently posted on one of my caches: Ursa Minor – Kochab:

    Found it Found it

    07/31/2016

If you are reading this, then my last desperate effort to send a message to the outside world was successful. I am the last survivor of an ill-fated expedition to unearth the lost treasure of Kochab. My food and iodine tablets ran out two days ago, and my guide and porters have left me in the night.

Having started out by the southern route, the folly of our choice soon became obvious. My companion turned back to safety and wished me luck on my journey. How I wish now in my exhaustion and delerium that I had followed her example and abandoned the quest then.

Instead I forged ahead, heedless of the heat and the flies – headlong into the thickets. At night, I could hear drumbeats and the pacing of wild animals, calling to mind the legend of Mbwuun, the Monster of the Mead. At times, in my malarial fogs I imagine I can smell his goatish foulness just off the trail.

Making the last miles on my own, I reached the reported location of the treasure, only to find it missing. However, a careful search of the area using the last of my strength resulted in the final bitter success of my quest. Alas, I have no one with whom to share my success, and there is little hope of making it out alive in my current condition. I replaced the treasure back where it belonged, and I now look to the north as I begin my futile march back to civilization. There is a remnant of an ancient trail. It is likely there where you will find my scattered remains.

To the world at large, I bid you a fond and final farewell.

    Eternally yours,
    Mr. RT

We received this log on the “Meet the WGA” series, 7 caches in Brookfield (Waukesha County) that highlight different things about the WGA.

Meet the WGA #7: All Together Now (GC4NBQC) has a new log:
    Logged by: CacheMe0uts1de
    Log Type: Found it
    Date: 06/24/2017

Found it. Thank you for the fun and informative series. I am now a member of the WGA due to this series and may attend some of the upcoming events. Had a tough time finding this one but the clue was very helpful. TFTC!
