I think the wording is confusingĀ for this year’s spring campout location.Ā  It’s stated on the WGA main page as the “2017 WGA Spring Geo Campout–May 19-21, 2017–Marathon County Park–Big Eau Pleine West Campground.”Ā  That makes it sound like the park is called “Marathon County Park,” and the group campground is “Big Eau Pleine West Campground.”Ā  I tried looking up Marathon County Park – there is no such park that I could find.Ā Ā  The closest matchĀ brings you to Marathon Park in nearby Wausau (which is in Marathon County), which is not the correct park.Ā  From what I can tell, the name of the park is simply “Big Eau Pleine Park.”Ā  I would suggest dropping the “Marathon County”Ā from the title.Ā  Perhaps a more clear description would be Big Eau Pleine Park, located in Marathon County.

I sent the edit to Dawn to look at. However, if you click on the link to Marathon County Parks, you will be ok. Thanks for the feedback.

The goal was to get the word out early to our members. Edits and corrections can always be made and we have plenty of time to do it!!!

I think the wording is confusing for this year’s spring campout location. It’s stated on the WGA main page as the ā€œ2017 WGA Spring Geo Campout–May 19-21, 2017–Marathon County Park–Big Eau Pleine West Campground.ā€ That makes it sound like the park is called ā€œMarathon County Park,ā€ and the group campground is ā€œBig Eau Pleine West Campground.ā€ I tried looking up Marathon County Park – there is no such park that I could find. The closest match brings you to Marathon Park in nearby Wausau (which is in Marathon County), which is not the correct park. From what I can tell, the name of the park is simply ā€œBig Eau Pleine Park.ā€ I would suggest dropping the ā€œMarathon Countyā€ from the title. I changed it, but couldn’t fit in all of the words but it shouldn’t be confusing any longer.

P.S. I booked my hotel room tonight šŸ˜‰

I booked my hotel room, too. Maybe I can put out some new caches in the area between now and then.

          That would be awesome!

About that, but only because there’s no direct route. In winter I can drive across the flowage and cut 10 minutes off the drive šŸ˜€

Do you need a state pass to camp here? or some other kind of pass?

No. It is a county park. All you need to do is pay the camping fee. There is no entrance fee. There is a $4 daily fee for using the boat landings, or you can buy an annual sticker for $25. Details are on the Marathon County Parks website.

What hotels are you guys booking at?

There is only one hotel in Mosinee, and that is Quality Inn Central Wisconsin Airport. That’s the only place I’m aware of so far that people have booked.Ā  I think it’s about $80/night.Ā  We’re staying there too.

About 6 or 7 miles north of Mosinee, in Rothschild WI, there are several hotels.Ā  Econo Lodge and Motel Six are reportedly only about $60/night.

Of course, it IS a campout event, so presumably most people will be camping!

Correct that the closest motel is in Mosinee (about 12 miles.) There are several motels in Marshfield (about 30 miles) Stevens Point (about 30 miles), and the Wausau area (22-25 miles). These bigger towns provide a lot more options for dining, etc. If I were booking a motel, I would probably look for one in the Wausau area.

I know that I can’t go this year because I have a conflict with the date. Ā That means I won’t be doing my usual paying for a campsite that I will never use. Ā šŸ˜‰
