After participting in the lonely cache game this past year, I feel the recognition was a little disappointing. Last year, if I’m not mistaken, prizes were given out to the top ten and this year they were again. But the prizes this year were not as good as last year. This year, the top two were recognized, and we worked our butts off to get into 3rd. I understand that this is all donations from the WGA and other members, but why couldn’t we have an award scenario, like the Olympics: Gold, Silver, Bronze coins or path tags. They could still be the same coins every year. Just a thought.

This was also the first time the LCG Event and Chili Feed were held at the same time. That, and the good weather (instead of a blizzard!) detracted from the presentation. Pm sent.
Bragging rights and checking on quite a few lonely caches are your rewards, and the thanks for all the hard work you and your fellow LCG players did to keep the quality of caches in Wisconsin high are your recognition.
Congrats on achieving the bronze for 2016, and thank you for your dedication to Wisconsin geocaching.
I neglected to thank the cachers who stepped up to organize and run the LCG portion of this past weekend’s event.
And, as usual, big thanks to Team Deejay for the LCG lists and maps throughout the year and to Labrat and anyone else who checks over and approves the many LCG submissions and points.
I agree it was not a smooth transition. My fault.
The plaque presentation going first threw me off and we forgot the coins and making a bigger deal out of it. In my mind the service plaques were going to go last so when that went first, I whiffed it after reflecting on the last 4 yrs. Broke pace, lost train of thought, all that.
On the plus side I saw several newbies and “seasoned” WGA members that never come to the LCG because they don’t know about it or just don’t play so do not come to that event.
Hopefully, some of these that came for Chili catch the itch and begin playing. We’ll know in the incoming months.

As a unofficial BOD until Saturday but lets get a head start. We are always looking for suggestions on how we can do better so feel free to tell us your ideas. We are always willing to listen. I personally haven’t been involved with the LCG but I am going to try to focus a little more on the lonely caches. I wouldn’t want to be lonely.

You all had a great event, in our opinion, the one thing we thought was lacking was getting this event out there to the non-geocachers, seems like everyone there were members, etc. I contacted the Fond du Lac tourism and convention bureau as to why this wasn’t publicised and they said they knew nothing about it. I agree with Jim, if it’s good weather, everybody does their own thing, people drive a long ways, they are gonna want to find some caches.
As for Scott’s comment, perhaps asking for donations might help increase the booty! That being said, let’s look forward to next year’s event.

I think that’s an excellent point, and something we should look into for future events. If we want to increase membership, we have to get the non cachers exposed.

Not saying this couldn’t be done, but with the LCG event rolled in with the Chili event, publicizing it would have caused a logistical nightmare with an unknown number of laypeople that could have dropped in and wanted to eat. Since we have access to the Will Attend logs, we can estimate the amount of food we need to have prepared. Without some estimate, things can turn ugly in a heartbeat and makes us look bad for not being prepared.
the WGA does work to be present at community events if that works out by having volunteers to man the booths along with the BOD if at all possible. This means that the WGA is not just the nine BOD members, but includes each member that visits the site, comes to the events, or just geocaches in Wisconsin. In fact the BOD cannot do it all alone, we need people to lend a hand.
this will be taken to the BOD meeting and we will have some discussion regarding outreach to the public-at-large to give them information about our beloved sport and how they can get involved.
