What experience/skills/strengths do you have to serve on the WGA board of directors?
~ **~ All posts are my opinion and do not in any way reflect the opinion of the WGA Board of Directors ~**~
01/12/2018 at 8:14 am #2057319Experience: I have been on the WGA BOD for two years and have served on all committees except for Cache of the Month, the Lonely Cache Game, and the Website. Prior to being on the BOD, like many others I donated my time to the WGA as a member willing to help where help was needed at events or during fundraisers.
Aside from the WGA, I have been involved in other volunteer work including Special Olympics, the Salvation Army, community fundraisers, and different work committees. A lot of my volunteer efforts stemmed from being a part of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY). Its mission is, “To inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.” This closely aligns with my Christian upbringing and personal beliefs.
Skills: I don’t know if we can ever have enough skills to be on any board or committee because the skill sets that are needed constantly change depending upon the application. By having the basic computer and geocaching skills in our back pockets, I believe that we adapt them to what is needed, learn as we go, and apply them as needed.
Strengths: I believe I am very diplomatic and calm when it comes to dealing with challenges. I think things through and always try to focus on the best outcome in all situations. I am quick to solve or get the help necessary to solve problems as they arise. I will always support my fellow BODs and their tasks as well as provide encouragement. I am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone to learn and experience new tasks and ideas. I am a very positive person and my focus has been, and will continue to be, on the WGA and its members as a whole.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/12/2018 at 9:52 pm #2057328I have 2 years experience serving on the BOD. During this time I have worked on various committees and helped provide technical support on the website.
01/13/2018 at 7:47 am #2057334My experience in the world of geocaching is no where near most of the members of this organization, but I do have a good have a good amount of experience serving on other BODs. I’ve served on the local wrestling club BOD for 13+ years, the high school’s football club BOD for 2+ years, and coached youth baseball and football for numerous seasons. At some point or another, within the organizations I have served as VP, Secretary and equipment manager.
In recent years I have scaled back my involvement within these groups. I have devoted a considerable amount of time over the years to activities which my children are in. Even though I plan on being a voice in their activities also, I have decided to switch more of my focus to my hobbies and interests.
01/13/2018 at 5:29 pm #2057338I’ve been geocaching since Nov. 2009 and became a member of the WGA shortly after that. I have had some experience on other boards. I served on the board of directors for Samoset Council, BSA for five years and the Friends of the Mead and McMillan Wildlife Areas for eight years. I was secretary for the Friends for seven of those years.
As for skills, I make a pretty good pancake.
I consider patience to be one of my greatest strengths. I’m an analytical person, so I strive to fully understand a situation before making judgements and decisions.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
01/14/2018 at 6:09 pm #2057359While I have never served on a board of directors before, I have been in other forms of ‘leadership’ so to speak. From being a lead at my job despite my young age and opportunities I had while serving in the Army. I have become an active member in my local geocaching community and I am sure that I will strive to continue to grow the community as a whole whether elected or not.
As for skills, I make a pretty good waffle. 😉
Besides that, I am good at written communication. Between my job as a lead at my work and my love of writing, I have learned to communicate effectively through the written word. I would also consider myself good at team work as well as coming up with solutions to problems that others might not think of. I have learned this through my history of working in the Army and working with people from different walks of life and beliefs.
01/17/2018 at 11:38 am #2057454I have not been directly involved with a BOD before but I have been doing graphic design and photography for several organizations the last couple years. I have been involved with helping plan social events for a band I do work for. I look forward to gaining experience in a new aspect.
01/17/2018 at 4:22 pm #2057468Well, I’ve never sat as a board member. I am a critical thinker, I find logic very useful. In my career, I have worked in positions of management, as well as being part of a small or large group working toward a common goal. I believe that when everyone works together great things can happen.
The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA board.
01/23/2018 at 9:46 am #2057569I have been a geocacher and a WGA member for some time. I have been a “deputy grand knight” for a local council Knights of Columbus serving more than 5 years as an officer within that organization. I am a cub scout den leader for 5 years with a growing den, versus the various decreasing size of cub scout dens in this high speed age. Computer literate, and good communication skills, but most of all patience thanks to having two great children.
