Welcome to the 1st Annual Fox Valley Geocaching Road Rally!
Event begins at the new picnic shelter at Wittmann Park in Menasha, WI.
Rain or shine we will have the event. There is no such thing as bad weather, just unprepared geocachers.
Event begins at 10:00 am, Road Rally teams will start out at 10:30 am on Sunday, July 1st.
The Fox Valley Road Rally is a social gathering and a competitive game. There is a picnic at the park after the rally. Over the last few years, we have been a part of the Waukesha Road Rally and hatched the idea of a Northern version that would take place the day after the southern event, making this a Road Rally weekend.
As with the Waukesha Road Rally, there will be a picnic lunch that takes places after the event, starting around 1 for the Early Returners while the teams roll in and tabulating begins.
Please consider bringing a dish, salad, dessert, etc to pass. Also please bring your own beverages and lawn chairs.
Official FOX VALLY ROAD RALLY rules will be announced approximately 1 week before the event.
Children are welcome and encouraged to attend the event. There is a new playground next to the shelter to give the little ones a way to have fun. We recommend only kids 12 or older on a Rally team due to the number of stops and getting in and out of the car safely and quickly. You know your children best so ultimately the choice is up to you.
The course will take at least 4 hours depending on how well you do.
Everyone will be sent out at the same time. Teams can consist of up 4 to 6 people with the goal of this event to be fun and socialization. Feel free to form your own teams or reach out to others to come together to play.
Hopefully, new caches will also be published the day of the event but most likely not until the event is over. There is much more to this than finding caches.
Every team will be given a Card. On it, each will have Challenges, Caches and Scavenger Hunt items to complete.
Exact details will be sent out in an announcement closer to the event date.
If you just want to come and hang out, watching the teams come and go or just meet up later to see the results of the day’s activities, please state that in your will attend log.
ALL are welcome to attend the event and enjoy the food and geo-chat.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attent the event, the friendly competition and geo-chat that goes along with it all
Although this is mostly for fun, this can also be rather competitive and usually is. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 scorers.
Each 4-6 person team will need the following:
1) One digital camera
2).A smartphone and car phone charger.
3) a vehicle with an odometer and with enough gasoline in it to go at least 40 miles and enough room to fit the entire team safely.
4) One member with good reading / navigating skills.
5) One member with a valid drivers license.
6) $5-10 per team member to do optional tasks
7) A plastic bag to bring back scavenger hunt items
8) A pen
Preferably, each participant should also bring a food item to pass for lunch after the event.
In order to keep things fun and fair, here are some Road Rally Regulations.
Teams of 4-6 people – only allowed one motorized vehicle per team. Y’all gotta compete from the same vehicle.
You will have 4 hours to complete the rally. Where you go and what you do will be up to you.
Points are how you win. In the unlikely event of a tie, shorter time will be the tiebreaker. Time only matters for the tiebreaker AND if you go over time of 4 hours, sharp. Each 10 minutes, or fraction thereof, over time will be a deduction of 2 points.
Everything is optional except for smiling, laughing, having fun and making memories that last. These are required by all and are mandatory.
It should go without saying, but do not sabotage or make more difficult the hides for other teams. Saboteurs will be disqualified.
The Top 3 Teams will receive bragging rights until the next FoxValley Road Rally in addition to their trophies. This is meant to be competitive fun event
