At the Nada Cache Dash this past Sunday, I overheard a couple of Cache Bash hiders talking about archiving a few of their old caches before placing the new ones they’re getting ready for the event, and I wondered –

How can I, or any other cacher, give those caches one last find before the head off to the Land Of Archived Caches? Is there any glory to claiming the LTF for a cache being retired like ghere is for a new one being given life?

I think it would be fun to be the final finder for a cache I knew was ending a great run. But then, I also thought it was a good idea to offer my extra Halo Top to a cacher I never met, and so far, that isn’t working out, and I’ve yet to successfully hide a cache, so what do I know?

Good thought. The hiders for events would not likely tell you what caches they are going to archive because that would give you an unfair advantage. There’s always the surprise factor of where the caches will be hidden until the caches get published for events like WBCB.

However, anyone can always create a forum topic on here if they plan on archiving caches and letting us know when it was planned for. It’s been done before 🙂

We have over 50 LTFs to date. When pulling caches we never found before for “Cache Rescue”, if there was a container with a log, we would log the LTF on the final entry of the cache page, along with a picture, as proof that the container had been removed.

Now, if we could just get some caches on the Cache Rescue list, there would be more LTF logs to type!

With WisKid not adding to them, this is very difficult to do. I used to run a PQ of Archived/Disabled within 60 miles of my home and when it looked like there was a potential Rescue I would add it. Spent a lot of time with WisKid trying to replicate what he used to do.

How do you run a PQ on archived caches? I don’t see that as an option. I have notifications set for archived caches within 50 miles, which I watch for potential rescues, but it hasn’t yielded much yet.

The Waypoint coordinates for the Lee Park rescue are in the mission notes if anyone wants to take a shot at that one.
