After 5 years of caching, I recently (August) joined the comma club. #1,000 was lucky enough to be my first mega at West Bend Cache Bash this year. When I got home, I was looking at my geocaching map as we all do (don’t tell me I’m the only one) and planning my next excursion.
Despite having accomplished this, I felt overwhelmed based solely on the fact that…..there are still a lot of caches even in my own neighborhood that I still have not gotten. It made me realize that while 1,000 is a great accomplishment, there are still a lot of great caches out there to find and cool places to see.
Here’s to the next 1,000!!!

Congrats again on joining the comma club! And yes, even in my own neighborhood there are a lot to be found yet.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Congrats on 1,000! I’m almost a member of the “Comma Club” – 988 as I write this. Probably would be there by now if not for tummy issues during the Bash, technical issues for almost a month after the Bash, the Brewers in the playoffs, and the fact that I’m trying to finesse these last couple of dozen by looking for non-traditionals as much as I can.
You’re definitely not the only one who constantly looks at the geo-map to plan your run – I do, too! Sometimes, I end up not going out for a couple hours after I intend to because of trying to pin down where I want to go! I definitely over-think things at times.
It is overwhelming when looking at the map to see all of the icons that are not yet smilies. But, I think that puts cachers like you & me at an advantage, especially during some of the events HQ has had this year. We don’t have to go as far to earn points! 🙂
Race you to 2000? 🙂
10/08/2018 at 4:29 pm #2060969Congrats on your comma! I still remember how much fun my 1,000 find was. I also still try to make the milestones something memorable, even though there are fewer milestones for me recently. There are always a lot near me to be found, and a lot in many other interesting places. I usually pick an area and see what’s there, or go in conjunction with some other activity I have in that area. Or I go with others and let them choose, since they have typically cached out certain areas. I am sure wherever you go, adventures will follow!

10/09/2018 at 8:03 pm #2060988Welcome to the club! I remember my 1,000 find was pulling out my climbing gear and rappelling down to the cache near Duluth, MN. I know the feeling of looking at your neighborhood. I know I slowly picked on the caches in my old town of FDL especially when I was keeping my streak going, I was being picky. Then I just never got to finding local always went away. Then this spring I started to try and work on cleaning up the town but didn’t get so far. And now I moved :/ To where I have only a few finds previously. So now I have way to many to try and clean up now haha.

10/26/2018 at 4:53 pm #2061110Congrats, on the comma. Like Bennycams, I spend an inordinate amount of time staring at the geo map as well, how can you plan if you don’t have a map?!
