Some people have a way with words, others have a way with pictures. People have a knack with numbers but moreso with people.
Of these 4 things: words, pictures, numbers, people, which do you identify with the most and why?
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/09/2019 at 10:28 pm #2061827I identify most with people. Why? I never met a stranger! I like talking to people and learning their story or listening to their problems. I like to help people whenever I can, however I can. I am comfortable approaching people I don’t know and I am comfortable talking in front of a group.
People dont come with the rigid guidelines that numbers do. With people 1 +1 does not have to equal 2, according to mathamatical theory 1+1 must equal 2. Working with people allows me freedom to be creative and use my problem solving skills to be creative and effective in a way that best fits the situation.
I do like pictures, but I take them and honestly never do anything with them! I prefer to look at them than being the one creating them.
I do like words. Of course how could I talk with people without them! But with words come the rules of periods and commas and spelling and run on sentences.
Although it sounds like I am against rules, I am not! I respect and live by the rules every day. But if I have a choice in what I am doing I will pick the option that has the rules I can follow easiest and will allow me to be most successful.

01/12/2019 at 11:00 am #2061847I can honestly say that there is not one of those qualities that I identify with more than any other. Finding a balance of these skills in the ever changing situations of life is necessary to be successful in everything I do. My career requires me to not only use numbers, pictures and words, but also interact with people on a constant basis. I need to use numbers to understand if the machine I am working on is functioning properly. Pictures convey the design of the machine as the engineers intended, and I use them to convey ideas to others. Words describe theory of operation, safe operation, and necessary maintenance of the machinery. I also use my words to communicate with others through emails and other documents to successfully convey problems and possible solutions to issues with our machinery. Interacting with people is a very important part of my everyday as well. Not only do I have to understand the needs of the machine operators so that I can maintain the equipment properly, but as a representative of my union brothers and sisters in my local, I have to interact with them in a way that I understand their needs to feel comfortable working for our company.
Reflecting on how I must manage all four skills, I feel that interacting with people is the most important to me. Developing relationships, whether friends or coworkers, is what drives me. Not everyone is going to get along in the same ways, but I strive to build an environment where everyone feels comfortable in their role.

01/14/2019 at 7:55 am #2061872I identify the most with words. I am an avid reader and do a bit of my own writing (mostly fiction). I am not the best at being grammatically correct in my writing but that’s why there are resources out there to fix it for you. Second would be pictures. I am a photographer by night. I do love talking to people and getting to know them. Its a fun time to figure out what makes them click and get up in the morning. I use an awful lot of numbers at my job as of course they are important. I was good at math in high school taking Calculus but I don’t think I have used much of it since then.
Although in my opinion, you can’t have one of these without the other. Even in writing, you have numbers for pages. You have people to read; whether its editing or someone bought it at a garage sale. You have the words that paint pictures in imaginations that speak to people on a fundamental level. On the flip side if you have people, of course you will have words to speak, ages or phone numbers, and so many pictures taken to capture memories had!
01/15/2019 at 8:59 pm #2061903My special skill is not just one but a mixture of all. My my weakest used to be people but when I was on bod it helped me alot to be more social and work better as a team. Recently we switched churches and just strengthened my specialness with people and my commitment to God. With this question I feel they are all part of a pie to make me whole. Thank you.

02/06/2019 at 3:25 pm #2062223Ah, the right brain left brain quotient here. I find that I am either one side or the other. If I am in a creative flow, it will be difficult to be in the mathematical side. If I am in the mathematical side, it will be difficult to switch to the creative. And yes, geocaching is the perfect “get out of my head” activity to find the balance between.
