How does this happen?  We brought a couple of our coins to an event back in 2103.  Three or four attendees logged a discovery, we brought it home and it’s been in its shoebox ever since.  None of the folks who discovered it seem to be folks who are into discovering coins off a list.

So in the past couple days, we get a couple “discovery” logs on it.  We’ll delete and lock it, but I’m curious about two things here…

    1) what is the enjoyment in discovering stuff you’ve never actually seen?

    2) how in the world did our coin tracking number get onto one of these lists?

I’ve noticed that some people keep a list of trackables they discover and bring them with them to events for others to discover.

I personally wouldn’t ever want to discover something I’ve never seen.

I suppose that’s what happened and the code gets passed around.  In the scheme of life, not a biggie. I was mostly curious as to how it happens, and also why anyone wants to discover things they have never actually seen.  Also, we went to that event in the past in 2013, not the future like I wrote!

With the really old TB’s that were numbers only, I’ve sometimes entered the wrong tracking code and saw somebody else’s TB.  I suppose one could randomly try a bunch of different number codes and virtually discover trackables that way.

Just one of the many reasons I don’t do the travel bug thing….

I saw that; it made me giggle.

We also wondered if it was someone making an entry mistake.  Trekkin’ has communicated with one of these folks and he says he just enjoys discovering these things and offered that to us from his collected list.  We said thanks but no thanks.  We kind of gave up on trackables pretty early on ourselves.  Now we have a couple boxes of pretty things that just sit here.  Maybe I should toss them out to tempt the local crows.  [:)]

Wait.  “YOUR” coin?  They have one?  I don’t recall authorizing that!

Lots of people are selling their collections. I think Averith is still selling his as well as labrat_wr. I’ve purchased quite a few things from the both of them.

Every cache bash I seek out Averith to buy some trackables.  Perhaps I should just set up a tab…

I’ve gotten most of my WI pathtags from his wife and some pretty cool coins.

I’ve gotten WGA coins from labrat_wr.

We had coins made over a decade ago, like maybe in 2007.  Most of them still sit here in a box.  It was not a good use of our cash, as pathtags suddenly became the “thing” and trading a coin for a pathtag….nope.  We gave out a few to our friends and traded others for personal coins with folks we met along the way, offered up a couple as prizes and then….we just let them sit and collect dust.  Pretty much a waste of a good chunk of change on our part.  Live and learn!
