2021 will be the WGA’s 20th Anniversary. If elected, what kinds of things would you like to see happen for the WGA for this momentous occasion?
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/25/2020 at 2:09 pm #2065686I’m sure there is lots of ideas to be brainstormed, but what comes to mind right away would be to of course have a separate special Anniversary event. Location of course can be difficult but I think try to aim for the center of the state for all to reach. It would be fun to see either what photos or historical merch or other historical items on display that either the WGA has or others willing to donate for display at the event. There is a lot of history for geocaching in the WGA and in the state and would be fun to see a WGA in review.
I’m sure many would expect a special Geocoin or merch to coincide.
20 years is another good potential avenue for advertising of the WGA and maybe partnerships with the DNR or other groups in some form. I know there could be other fun things to do that once we get all brains together as well as ideas from the members that the possibilities are endless.

01/25/2020 at 4:04 pm #2065688wow, 20 years. That is extra special. Definitely a coin for 20 years, and maybe a Pathtag? Definitely a special gathering middle of the state to be neutral for all to attend. Will need to get input from membership of ideas all would like to see/happen, although not everything can be implemented, if elected I’ll do my best to listen and try to accommodate as many ideas as we can.
01/25/2020 at 4:46 pm #2065689There are already a lot of things going on this year that might not be happening if not for the 20th anniversary of geocaching as a whole. This includes the community celebration events, the HQ event in Seattle, extra Mega events like Mingo Madness. My suggestion would be not to try to compete with these other things, but instead try to come up with something uniquely Wisconsin. Perhaps using the community celebration event icon, but that doesn’t seem necessary. I like the idea of a centrally located event to celebrate WGA history, as well as potential 20th anniversary merch. I don’t have much to add beyond what the other candidates have already said.
My comments are mine alone and may not necessarily reflect an official stance of the WGA Board of Directors.
01/25/2020 at 6:49 pm #2065691A centrally located event would be a good idea, but maybe several, smaller events in different areas of the state would be another way to go. Partnering with the DNR, Ice Age Trail Alliance, and other organizations/agencies could give us myriad possibilities to choose from. I like the ideas for merchandise that the other candidates have proposed.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
