Hello candidates. What would you say is an area of expertise for some that is an area where you could improve? Or to put it another way, you were given guidelines on the expectations of board service…is there something on that list that you may struggle with, or perhaps there is uncertainty for you in some capacity?
01/10/2022 at 7:00 pm #2069255I have been on the BOD coming up on two years now.
No real uncertainty with anything other than the current pandemic and working with it when trying to plan the future. The struggle can be real though when it comes to getting to know, and working with someone new. Everyone is different, and everyone has ideas, opinions, etc. Its important to listen, respect, and have fun.

For me personally, I’m a very flexible person that’s eager to jump in and learn something new, even if it’s completely out of my comfort zone. Off the top of my head, if there’s one area of being on a Board that I am inexperienced with, it would definitely be any of the book keeping/financial related activities. Outside of that, I have a wide range of experience with event planning at my job, keeping track of tasks, leading efforts, etc.

01/12/2022 at 10:02 am #2069279Everyone always has a worry that they could not be good enough at something. If something comes up or there are questions, it is always best to keep people informed. This has helped me with my last term on the board when I was having some medical issues. There is flexibility with it but still give it the best that you possibly can!
01/12/2022 at 2:04 pm #2069292I am not very good a repetitive tasks. I am good at creating systems that use repetitive tasks but I get bored with it as soon as I have created it. Hopefully there will be others on the board that will have this strength.
I served on a board once with 11 visionaries and 1 administrative personality types. That poor soul had so much work to do! Knowing each of our strengths helped us communicate well to get things done.

Haha…should I admit here that I don’t balance my checkbook, so anything financial would not be in my wheelhouse? But then, that is why my husband does the bills and I do computer stuff. We each have different skills and put them to use to provide the best outcome for the team. I think that is the same for the BOD. Everyone comes in with different skills and specialties, and that is what makes the team function well.

01/14/2022 at 11:43 am #2069306Well I wouldn’t be the best person to be in charge of social media but otherwise I have a wide range of skills especially in planning and organizing. The one area that baffles me with boards is the Roberts Rules of Order which I think I saw the WGA may be relaxing. I have only attended meetings as a spectator where these were used and I know they are useful but I never figured out how!
01/17/2022 at 4:00 pm #2069327I am not experienced in web development, so I would not be of much help on further development of the website. Also, I am not a social media person – I don’t have any social media accounts, so that is not something I would be good at. If it’s a PowerPoint or spreadsheet that is needed, I can do that fairly easily. I have some experience with newsletters, so I could help there. I am pretty good at problem solving, brainstorming and planning.
