Hello again, candidates!
I’ve been known to have the occasional random thought and I wanted to share my most recent one in the form of a question with you.
Situation: You’re going on a road trip, perhaps a geocaching road trip, with some friends and every seat is occupied. What seat in the car do you want to sit in and why did you pick that seat?
Happy travels!

01/12/2022 at 10:04 am #2069280I want to drive because I get car sick if I don’t. Otherwise, if I have my Dramamine, I am good with whatever seat I am put in so long as the Driver and Copilot remember that bathrooms and food exist.

I usually like to be in the drivers seat but I welcome the passenger seat. In the passenger seat there is the opportunity for being the co-pilot, taking in the beauty around you, and keeping an eye on when the destination (cache) is nearby. Looking at a GPS can be a distraction for the driver. I have been in the backseat too, and this is awesome for taking naps, planning, and grabbing things out of the cooler for your fellow riders.
01/12/2022 at 12:48 pm #2069288It depends on who’s car it is. I would never request to drive another person’s car. If requested to pilot their vehicle, I would treat it as my own. If it were my car, I would drive to assure we got there safely and on time.

It really depends on how terrifying the others are at their driving skills (I joke). Generally I prefer to be the driver, because I like to see others having a fun time while I focus on the navigation. Realistically, it’s situational. If it’s my car, I’m going to drive. If I’m in another persons car and it’s full, then I will typically choose one of the back seats.
Which reminds me…I need to schedule a caching road trip for this year yet!

01/12/2022 at 11:12 pm #2069302My first reaction to the subject was “Cool! Where are we going?!?” 😊
I hate driving, so I will only take the wheel if I must. I love navigating and maps (might be why I was drawn to geocaching?), so I will always volunteer to ride shotgun. I take that spot seriously, and consider it an obligation to keep the driver awake, entertained and heading the right way. Should I mention that my motto when travelling is “we’re not lost, we’re adventuring!?!”

01/14/2022 at 11:30 am #2069304Usually I am driving but it would be nice to be a passenger since I do love to plan geocaching outings and I am a pretty darn good navigator. Well I am better on the roads than when looking for a cache when I am sometimes known for taking the more difficult route to the GZ! As a passenger I could do a better job of understanding not just the route but what the cache entails – digging into the detail for clues. That can be hard to do when driving…
01/15/2022 at 8:44 pm #2069321I love being the navigator and planner, so the driver can focus on driving (and so I don’t get car sick which usually happens when I am in the backseat). If I know what we want to accomplish on the road trip, I enjoy the planning and figuring out the best route to take; however, I tend to be overly ambitious in what can be accomplished in each day on a road trip. In 2020 we took some epic adventure road trips as a work around for COVID causing our planned trips to be canceled.

Which is sometimes a questionable decision at best. My navigator tends to hold the map upside down, or inadvertently leave out the N,S,E, and W when reading an address. But, in all seriousness, I don’t really have much preference. I enjoy taking in the scenery around us but sometimes enjoy driving and allowing others to enjoy the scenery as well.
