I’m the mom from the family using the tdschmidt geocaching name, using Jen920 on the WGA website. My husband Tim got the adventure started in August of 2014 by creating the account. Our family primarily stuck to summer explorations the first few years and then I got the bug and started our searching year-round and attending more WGA events, increasing our annual find count total a little higher each year. We live just outside of Wrightstown, WI, though I grew up on a farm outside of Bloomer and still have family there, so that’s why you’ll find our hides on both sides of the state.
We’ve passed 1300 finds, and currently have 40 active hides, plus an adventure lab on the geocaching map. The kids are fans of gadget and climbing hides, and as family appreciate expanding our list of state parks visited as we combine camping and geocaching each year. I also enjoy the challenge of hunting for caches off the LCG list to see if I can find a well hidden and/or rarely visited nook of the state.
I currently work as a library associate at the local library, so have had the opportunity to put a few Geocaching 101 presentations on the schedule, and why a few of our hide series are book themed. I’m also a board member of our 2 children’s rec summer soccer league. After wearing many hats on that board in recent years, I’ve been able to scale back my roles there this year to free up my time to be able to accept the WGA board nomination.
As a nominee, I look forward to continuing to promote the programs of WGA and help more people in northeastern Wisconsin discover what geocaching is all about.
Thank you for the nomination!
