      There are 9 people on the WGA Board of Directors.  That can mean 9 different personalities, opinions, and ideas.  Some of those ideas may compliment your own, some may be completely contradictory to your own.

      How will you handle differences of opinions that may arise during your time?  

      What are your experiences working closely with others to accomplish tasks?

        I love a good debate!  It would be extremely boring if everyone thought alike.  In my years of experience I believe that if everyone sits down and expresses there true opinion and states their case that a decision can be reached.  Obviously, not everyone will be happy at the end, but majority rules and I respect that and will work together to achieve the goal.

        I was a District Supervisor for Wendys for almost 20 years and have worked with quite a few different personalities.  I am a member of the Roberts Lions Club and have been on their BOD for 9 years in various roles, also serving as President and chair of numerous committees.

        Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, Time bound.  This is an acronym for S.M.A.R.T. goals!!

        I’ve never been one to be argumentative as it’s just not in my nature. I don’t like debate although I understand how important it is to have many different opinions and ideas. If someone, or a majority, has a different opinion than me, then majority rules. I’m also not one to gripe and moan afterwards if an idea doesn’t go my way (not out loud, anyway.)

        My experience working closely with others would come from every job I’ve had in my adult life. I’ve nearly always worked as part of a team and find that preferable to working solo. I like collaboration and the sense of accomplishment when the team arrives at a goal.

          I know firsthand about how ideas differ. I was involved with the Eau Claire North High Band Parents for seven years. I held the office of President for two years. During that time I spearheaded a fundraiser to replace uniforms. With 3/4 of the amount raised, it was presented that we put that money towards instruments instead. With cool heads, it was voted for the instruments. I use this as an example of my ability to work with everyone.

            I’ve been on a soccer board of 8-10 members for approaching 10 years now, working with a variety of personalities. It takes a lot of cooperation to plan a successful season for 1600 players, plus coaches and referees. It takes respectful conversations and dividing up the work so that talents can align with all the responsibilities that go along with planning each year.

            I’m one that tends to sit back and listen a lot during meetings, but not afraid to speak up when I have new or different input to add to the topic at hand. Good communication and goals are important to keep a team moving.

            I don’t mind a difference of opinions. It makes life interesting to say the least. What I don’t like is when a person/ people think that there is only one way to go about a task and refuse to consider other options. I normally am a listener but do not hesitate to speak up when the situation calls for it. There is always a kind way to state strong opinions and also to resolve any issues in the same manner.

            As of experience, I worked in a high school for a good bit. Working alongside teens pre teens and faculty. A lot of different areas to work closely with kid’s and adults to organize and execute tasks. I found organization and delegation is a successful way to get the job done.

            I’ve been a part of many organizations where opinions and personalities collide. Typically my approach is to keep the heated issues fact-based and try to make sure meetings and discussions are actually moving forward, not descending into sniping matches. I also try to be empathetic. If I have issues with how someone is behaving, I prefer to resolve those privately to avoid making a scene. As chair, you have to know when to cut off discussion and call for votes. It’s a fine line to walk, that’s for sure.
