Hello Candidates! Thanks for agreeing to run for the WGA BOD!
As you are aware, there are 9 members on the Board. Everyone has a different background and experience. What skills do you have that will be useful to the Board functions?

01/22/2023 at 1:21 pm #2071239When I first got into Geocaching I just had the website to go to with questions. I like visual training tools. We had just started Geocaching and were at a cache in River Falls, WI looking for a cache and this car pulled up and this wonderful person got out and said “it’s not over there”. Don and I looked at her and wondered what was going on! This wonderful person turned out to be Jodibee, the absolute BEST Geocaching mentor we could have asked for. She helped us and answered a ton of questions that we had and still have. After about 1 year of caching and attending numerous events I saw the need for a Geocaching 101 display that was geared towards the “beginner” cacher. I have set up this display at quite a few events in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
I believe my strength in WGA Board functions and events would be Geocaching 101. I thought about what I would have liked to have seen when I first started. It consists of a display board, toolbox, and a breakdown of container sizes and varieties, the terms and history of Geocaching. For me if I see it, I understand what I am looking for.
I would also like to see a “Mentor” program started so beginners have a veteran go-to person to call or message like I had in Jodibee. I believe this would keep new cachers from getting frustrated especially when they start to do their own hides. Sometimes its just nice to talk to a person and not have to rely on computers.
01/22/2023 at 5:23 pm #2071240When I first started geocaching, I had already been exposed to it over the previous 10 years thanks to the influence of our good friends Biotreker and Woody1. Even though I thought I knew what I was doing, the very first cache I attempted to find – a simple micro in a street sign hide – I DNF’d. Looking back at that, I would echo what Jacque said about mentoring. I agree that having a cache mentor can be invaluable for anyone just starting out. I would say a strength of mine that would be useful would be the willingness to mentor new cachers. Also, with my history in early childhood education, I have a good report with young children and love to see geocaching through their eyes! I also think I am naturally a patient and respectful person, and get along well with just about everyone!
01/22/2023 at 9:24 pm #2071242I wrote earlier about my experiences while with the high school band parents organization. After retiring in 2012, I spent time as a tour director for Holiday Vacations, a locally owned travel company. The #1 necessity was to have the ability to multi-task. For the past six years, I’ve been working for a local funeral home. For both, a level head is critical to be able to listen, show compassion and support where and when I can.

01/23/2023 at 9:57 am #2071245I’m currently a library associate at a small branch in a countywide system, so though I have support from outside my own branch, I’m used to wearing many hats and figuring out things as I go. I’m not afraid to dig in to research to figure out a solution. My original career path started with a hospitality and tourism degree with a goal to be a meeting planner, so I also enjoy planning events, something the WGA takes a lead on several times a year. In between those pieces of my career path, I fell into the IT realm, being the translator between the business side of meeting planning and the technical side of website and database programmers. So I’m not afraid to try out any tech that comes along.
