Count us as among those who don’t care to cache a pile of days in a row.  We do have other things to keep us busy.

That said…..We managed to get the two days in a row souvenir.  We won’t try for the full 28, but even getting 7 is a challenge for us.  Our caching area has not been a hotbed of cache placements, other than some we’ve put out and a few others by a couple newer cachers.  So we don’t have a lot to choose from.  To get to four days so far, we have….

Travelled about 20 miles downriver one day.  Across the river another.  (Not so tough there).  Then almost to the edge of our 50 mile radius on Saturday.  Yesterday, I was going birding in Horicon anyway, so that gave us one more day.  Today we’ll probably head about 40 miles from here.  Tomorrow there’s one that Trekkin’ DNFed, because….we think it wasn’t even out when first published, and now it is.  We can travel about 45 miles to get to our 7th day.

I can only imagine for folks who live in even less cache rich areas.  We have a fair number of active cachers in our area, but they just don’t seem to want to put anything out, only finding them.  We’ve met some of them.  At one event, a local suggested we archive some of ours and put more out.  It was all I could do to say…..”Maybe some of you could PUT some out! It’s not up to us and a couple other folks to keep you rolling in finds.”  I guess basically I wish these things were less dependent on numbers and more on the experience.

There.  I’m done venting.  It’s kind of funny that those silly little digital images can stir up emotions.  I saw so much posting when the first one didn’t come out right away due to a programming glitch.

When doing other activities like you did, such as paddling, birding, camping, even sightseeing, I think it is great that you and many add caching to it.  It is also great if someone does want to just spend the day geocaching.  But what I really think is awesome is that you and many of the early caching veterans still do geocache and place and maintain their caches.  Obviously folks do need to pare down or even leave the hobby, but I am happy to see some of the longtime cachers still active, in person or in forums.  It is also good to see new names keeping things going.  Hopefully they will add to the sport and keep things going for veterans and newbies alike!

Agree 100% with both of you. We’re fortunate to have enough to find within 20 minutes (one way) to keep a streak going. If we pushed it out to Point/Plover we could go half a year if we just found one cache a day. I’m just happy that I’ve had time to publish a dozen or so to keep people in the area with new caches to find for things like this. I have four more locations scouted out, but haven’t had the time to go back to place anything yet.

As Amita said, we’d be nowhere without the long time cachers. I met more than a few Charter members out in Oregon and they either still had the passion to complete something like this, or just pick and choose what and when to go. The game for them isn’t about getting a digital icon. I’m especially grateful for those that created the WGA and kept it going all these years!

One…..more….day!  Tomorrow we’ll head to Decorah (90 minutes from home) to pick up a few and maybe stop in at Pulpit Rock Brewery.  We don’t have a lot left in Decorah, but enough to make it worth the trip, along with other enticements there.  These days, Eau Claire or Rochester are about our closest (each 90 minutes from home) to make it worth going for a day of caching.

We do have a trip to Rockford planned to go to a theater production and cache, so we’ll likely hit 11 days running.  That will be it as far as a streak goes for us.

I’m at 11 days, but at this point I don’t care if I don’t make it to 28. I’m just going to take it a day at a time.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

Are you telling me you need a few more caches dropped? I have locations set. I even have one typed up for Rome – and it isn’t a puzzle cache!

We squeaked by and now that’s enough streaking for us.  We ran into snags……lost time on the phone with government agencies and then heavy rain in Decorah.  We drove about an hour one way to get something in Minnesota.  What a goofy hobby!

Drove to the closest cache last night once we realized we almost forgot to get one. Dusk was setting in. Found the cache, but when we got home, we couldn’t find a chicken. We had nursed her back to full health after almost dying from fly strike. We found a pile of feathers in the backyard this morning and a trail going over a 4′ high chickenwire fence. Son thinks coyotes. We’re not sure if we didn’t see the pile when we got home and looked for her, or if she was roosting and refused to come when we were calling her. (She would do that, she was a good girl.) Some of our birds I wouldn’t mind if they were gone. This one really hurts.

Oh, that’s a shame, for sure. Cycle of life and all that, but still……Sorry to hear that.

Yeah, we just lost her friend last night too. Makes taking care of the birds easier without having two old birds and their peculiar needs, but it sure is something we miss now too. This one was easier because we could see the end coming.
