Hi, I am honored to nominated for a position on the board.  I have been geocaching since the summer of 2005 after purchasing a GPS unit for driving and mapping purposes, when someone at work asked if I knew what else I could use it for…that’s when my favorite hobby started.

My wife and I have been geocaching together since 2018, as team Rollie67, and have enjoyed taking weekend camping and road trips, and extended driving vacations with geocache finds a favorite part of the journey.  Since learning about the Jasmer challenge late in 2022, that has driven my passion over the last year, with needing 1 more find for the 1st, which should be completed during a road trip this spring, and hopefully 25 more to complete all 4 some day.

I was the scoutmaster for my son’s Boy Scout Troop for over 10 years and enjoyed sharing the hobby with the youth, working with them on the geocaching merit badge as a counselor and setting up group activities to teach both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts the best methods to geocache, while searching for public hides, and temporary ones that I’d place for the day.

I was quite active planning and coordinating scout activities during those years which did keep my geocaching activities limited, but I feel that experience translates well into helping out on the board with coordinating and executing geocaching activities.  Over the last few years I’ve stepped back from my scouting obligations, so I currently have lots more time available for a new challenge.

One area I’d like to continue to advance is introducing geocaching to youth and their families, as an activity to get everyone out of the house, and enjoy for the day or as we all know, almost anywhere in the world.
