Thank you for running for the board! Good luck to all the candidates.

There are 9 members on the WGA Board. Everyone has a different background and experience. What skills do you have that will be useful to the Board functions?

    Hi Jen920,

Thanks for asking. I am grateful to be considered for another term on the WGA board of Directors. I served a one-year term two years ago. I bring that experience to the new board.

    Creativity

I have been awarded the WGA Spotlight Cache award three times and the honor of hiding a Virtual geocache in the Green Bay airport. Those awards indicate a level of hides more unique than usually found. Likewise, I like to think “outside the box” when contributing to board and committee meetings often providing a solution other members had not considered.

    Leadership

I led the team of hiders for the 2022 WGA Spring Picnic in Potawatomi State Park. That experience should serve me well as I intend to lead more teams of hiders in the future.

While serving on the WGA board, I took the initiative to chair the newsletter team. We grew subscribership and introduced single-topic newsletters that are delivered monthly.

    Compatibility

I get along with pretty much anyone. I am friendly and outgoing. I just as happy to endorse and support other board members ideas as I am my own. I am not afraid to pitch in and help, often arriving before everyone and the last to leave. I usually do not say much in board meetings unless I have something significant to say. I like to hear the other ideas and viewpoints from the veteran and creative members.

    Writing

I enjoy writing articles for the WGA newsletters. I often receive feedback that my articles are well done and enjoyed by members of the Geocaching community.

    Hello Jen920,

I thank whom ever nominated me to the board and who ever second it.  This will be my first time on the board if elected. I am really not sure what to expect. I would hope I can help expand geocaching in the state of Wisconsin.

I have 11 hides with with a total of 55 favorite points. I have received one geocache spotlight from the WGA.  I also have one Adventure Lab in Milton.

I hope to bring my almost 14 years of geocaching experience to the board to help improve the game, sport what ever you want to called in Wisconsin.

As a geocacher myself I like to educate others in what geocaching is and how it is played. It is fun watching them when they make their first find.

Hi Jen, in response to your skills question, I also will be new to this if voted in, so I have lots to learn.  I’m willing to pitch in where needed, as I have lots more time available since stepping down from the scoutmaster roll I mentioned in my introduction.  What I think will help is my experience in planning outings and events as we had a goal in the troop to go camping monthly from January to October (November and December were sometimes as holidays kept everyone busy).  Also planning geocaching events and activities should translate well too.

I tend to be a very organized type of person, and willing to ask questions and provide ideas for something new to do, and willing to do the grunt work where needed.  So I’m hoping those skills will be a help too.

    Hello, Jen920.

What skills do I have that would be useful? Even though I will be new, I hope to bring an open mind.  I hope to bring creativity and a way to think differently about things.  I like to think that although my field requires being very detail-oriented, I can also look at the big picture.  I do feel that I do well being diplomatic having had to work with strong personalities in the medical field.  Thanks for the question.

Flexibility/Adaptability- from Scouting I’ve learned to be flexible.  Schedules and weather don’t always go as planned, and sometimes you just need to change on the fly.  From Relay For Life (American Cancer Association) events, projectors can break down, one of the luminaria candles can catch its paper bag on fire…you adapt, play a game, quench the fire, and move on!

Working with Everyone – in my job, I work with everyone from the Assemblers in my Factory, to the Receivers/Shippers in my Distribution Center, to my Sales folks, to Finance…I don’t get stuck on “just doing my job”, I keep in mind the Customer at the end of the line who is waiting for the product and do what it takes to get it to them.

Creativity – similar to flexing/adapting, being able to be creative really helps whether setting up events when it is windy, figuring out how to help hide a variety of caches, or any other time that everything doesn’t conform exactly to how the plan was in your head.  I like doing puzzles, and taking a situation and making the best of it is just another type of puzzle.

Experience/Knowledge from last 2 years – I really think that the last 2 years on the Board have really helped me learn for the position.  I wish I’d volunteered more beforehand, so that I would have had a better idea of the processes.

Planning – I am a Planner/Scheduler for my work.  I take the Customer Sales Orders and convert them into work orders for the Factory.  As part of this, I am always thinking in the short term, to make sure that there are parts available, people scheduled, and shipping lined up.  But I also need to focus on the longer term, to set up the logistics of parts/people/shipping as a constant but flexing flow.  It doesn’t do us any good to have 2 of the 3 available, anything we are missing breaks the chain.  The same thing goes for the BOD.  We focus on the next upcoming event but have to start thinking about the event 6 months from now to reserve the Park shelters.
