Being on the Board can be a lot of time commitment at various times throughout the year.  More so around events, and especially in August whereas it is pretty much all hands on deck for Wisconsin’s only MEGA which the WGA has a merchandise event.

Thankfully with the availability of Microsoft Teams, which allows for Chat, Video Chat, and File Sharing. It allows the board to keep workflows active and get things completed well before the next meeting, especially when it comes to crunch time for planning and ordering merchandise, etc.

How do you feel about time commitment?

The last few years I was unable to commit because we had 2 elderly dogs that we didn’t want to leave at kennels for any length of time. Unfortunately, both have now crossed the rainbow bridge. That is why I felt now was a good time to run as we have nothing holding us back anymore. I can now commit to the WGA fully and already have all events marked on the calendar for the coming year.

After settling in to the “new” routine of retirement I now have the time to devote to the WGA and it’s activities. While I will miss some of the caching time at Cache Bash, I look forward to getting to know more geocachers from around the state. I particularly enjoy getting to know folks that are new to caching. In the past we haven’t attended as many WGA events as we would have like to due to our travels and/or commitments my hubby had. I have decided I’m not sitting at home, while hubby is gone. I want to attend WGA events. I am cutting back on other volunteer activities to have the time needed to work with the WGA. I have benefited from the WGA and I feel it is time to give back to the organization that has enriched geocaching for me.

I know from my past time on the BOD the amount of time it takes.  Its a lot of work but I enjoy it.  I am hopeful we can get lots of folks excited about geocaching over the next couple of years and help make our events fun.

Please note: my comments are mine alone and may not necessarily reflect an official stance of the WGA Board of Directors.

It is important to realize that the workload is an ebb and flow.  Many things are happening behind the scenes months before events happen which really helps balance it a bit. It does take all board members to be engaged and completing their tasks to keep things all together. There however, are a few things that have to wait until the final days before an event to be completed that I am very familiar with and plan for when creating my schedule.

Thank you for asking this question, as it is a very important consideration and I am glad to have a place to be transparent about my availability!

I will be honest that this is the portion that caused me to hesitate when determining if I would accept the nomination to run for the board. While I love investing in the geocaching community, I am also currently working a full time job while taking online classes to complete my Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Design. My husband is also in school, as he is doing a 24 month program for his Master’s Degree in Public Health. We are also involved in our church community as well. Thus, There are seasons when I do not have much free time available. Fortunately we are not parents yet and have no pets, which does allow us some more flexibility.

Late August is my birthday/our wedding anniversary back-to-back, but it seems to fall after the Cache Bash. This year we have a family member’s wedding to attend on the 16th, so that makes me unsure if I would be available to assist on site with the Cache Bash this year.

I do believe that I could be helpful for other events throughout the year though, especially in between the spring and fall semesters for school.
