12th Annual Appleton Parks Fox River CITO
Our 12th Annual Appleton CITO event will be headquartered at Pierce Park this year and run in tandem, as it has in the past, with the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance’s 2018 Fox-Wolf Watershed Cleanup Event To prevent overlap of efforts, we will assemble at the Pierce Park shelter and review the many city parks the will need our help as well as those that will be covered by FWWA’s efforts. Please plan on gathering at Pierce as we have in the past before clean-up begins to take part in this important step.
Also, in this effort to prevent duplicity, we encourage you to register on the FWWA page with the clean-up team named “FoxValley CITOcachers” (password “cito”) and choose an Appleton site you’ll use as your jump-off point. This is not a REQUIREMENT, but an endeavor to help coordinate parallel clean-up efforts. Enter the number of participants and you will be taken to an on-line waiver for your team members
Waivers
The City of Appleton still requires us to collect their waivers. You can print off Adult or Youth forms as needed and bring completed versions with you for your group leader to collect.
Schedule
8:00am-8:30am Meet at Pierce Park to sign in at the Geocaching table and turn in City of Appleton volunteer waivers.
8:30am-8:45am Travel to Appleton Park clean-up sites.
8:45am Meet at chosen park registration site. As a curtesy, notify FWWA team leaders of your arrival.
9am-12:00pm Appleton Parks clean-up.
12:00pm-2:00pm Return to Pierce Park for the FREE lunch and Clean-up Picnic Event. We’ll have a spot picked out for a WI Geo table Group Picture, Strangest Trash Award and Door Prizes.
Equipment to Bring
Gloves, Walking stick (poking apparatus, “grabber”) as these devices work well for picking up trash, Shoes or Boots that can get muddy, and most importantly, Family and Friends who want to learn about geocaching, cleaning up parks and meeting new people.
If you intend to participate in shoreline clean-up efforts, bring your waders or hip boots. We will have a number of small head gardening variety rakes available. You may wish to bring a change of clothes, just in case…. I know someone will end up in the water and need them!
Our tradition of conducting the annual “Strangest Trash” contest will result on some geocachers going home with minty fresh geocoins, as well as some other giveaways and other sundry surprises. Anyone interested in donating items to the cause, feel free to PM me.
DUAL CITO OPPORTUNITY
1:00pm CITO | Heavy Metal Trifecta will take place at High Cliff State Park. Those of you thinking about attending both are encouraged register with one of the 3 parks listed on that CITO’s cache page. Or, or can journey out to High Cliff after you warp up in Appleton.
Don’t forget to add this cache page to your watchlist to keep up to date on who’s coming and any relevant notes that are posted. Officially, those attending CITO Events between April 22th and April 30th will earn a 2018 CITO Souvenir for their Geocaching profile.
