13th Annual Appleton CITO
This year, the event will be headquartered at Appleton Memorial Park with clean-up beginning at 10:00am Saturday morning. Around 1pm we’ll regroup for potluck and geocaching related stuff. Plan to be at the park around 9:30 (or earlier for a little pre-cleanup coffee, and socializing). Don’t show up late, as the coffee and cookies go pretty quickly. We’ll finalize Team determination starting around 9:30 (See Schedule below). As we have in the past, attendees will be split into FOUR teams and determine a team captain to coordinate park clean-up strategies for their group.
Waivers
You will need to sign the customary waiver for the City of Appleton which you can print off here or wait till you get to the park. Adult / Youth
Schedule
9:00am-9:30amOptional pre-event Coffee & Cookies
9:30am-10:00am Zone Assignments, Supplies Distribution Break attendees into park cluster groups and assign Team Captains. If there is enough interest and attendance, an additional Shoreline Team may be created. Distribute gloves, bags and other clean-up supplies.
10:00-1:00pm Parks Clean-up
1:00pm-2pm Potluck and Review at Memorial Park.
Group Picture, Strangest Trash Award, Door Prizes.
Shoreline Crew
If there is interest, a team shoreline clean-up effort is possible, but requires some watercraft. These pairings will work in tandem to clean the significant flotsam that collects along the water’s edge, the most significant and unsightly debris we can address! Interested individuals will need to bring waders and hip boots as well as any light duty rakes you may have.
Strangest Trash
Our tradition of conducting the annual “Strangest Trash” contest will result on some geocachers going home with minty fresh geocoicns, as well as some other giveaways and other sundry surprises. Anyone interested in donating items to the cause, feel free to PM me.
Equipment to Bring
- Gloves
- Walking stick, poking apparatus, “grabber”. These devices work well for picking up trash.
- Shoes / boots that can get muddy
- Family and friends who want to learn about geocaching, cleaning up parks, meeting new people, etc.
ADDITIONALLY if you intend to participate in shoreline clean-up efforts, bring your waders, hip boots. We will have a number of smal-head gardening variety rakes available. You may wish to bring a change of clothes, just in case…. I know someone will end up in the water and need them!
Don’t forget to add this cache page to your watchlist to keep up to date on who’s coming and any relevant notes that are posted. Officially, those attending CITO Events between March 1st and April 31st will earn a 2019 CITO Souvenir for their Geocaching profile.
