Yellowstone Trail Heritage Days celebrates the rich history of Hudson, WI, located along the historic national Yellowstone Trail, the first trans-continental road across the states.  This year’s event kicks off later Friday afternoon with the arrival of a 50+ unit Military Vehicle Preservation Association Convoy and a Salute to Veterans convoy parade through Hudson.

The convoys travel around 30 mph for about 120-150 miles per day, along many of the earliest and most picturesque roads in our Nation, for 20-30 days.  These convoys have been dubbed “the longest 4th of July parade in the country”!  The plan is for them to convoy up from Prescott, WI, and then parade through downtown Hudson and end at the Hudson House Grand Hotel parking lot (see event coordinates).  Their goal is to be at the Hudson house between 4:30 and 5:00, but that depends on travel conditions.

There will be a Pig Roast to celebrate the convoy, free will donation, if you want to participate.  Owners of the vehicles will hang around their vehicles for a while to let visitors see the military vehicles, and visit with the owners.

Event is scheduled from 4-5 pm, with the hope that it will encompass the time the vehicles arrive, but that will depend on the convoy.  Permission was given to have this event in the back parking lot of the Hudson House by Assistant Manager Brittany.  We’ll have to be flexible depending on when the convoy arrives and how many others are out!

If you are new to Geocaching, this is basically a meet and greet for Geocachers.  Come on out and meet experienced and new cachers from the area.  It’s a great time to get hints on sneaky hides and tricky puzzles!
