Well, it’s graduation time in America’s Dairyland and Sir Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” is echoing through high school gymnasiums and across college campuses.
But if this is an off year for a relatives or friends graduation, why not pop over to Rosendale on this first Saturday in June from 10 AM – noon and see the splendor of Sisson’s Peony Gardens (as well as a few geocachers)?
This is a 2 hour meet ‘n’ greet to welcome summer and stroll the rows of flowers on the traditional Peony Festival weekend. No more parades or crowning of the Peony Queen, like in the 60’s and 70’s. Just an open invitation from the Rosendale Historical Society to enjoy the beauty of these perrenials.
Established in 1920, William Sisson planted the first of his gardens at this location. After 9 years, he hired Jesse Phillips as a partner and the gardens grew to 5 acres with 2500 varieties. You can learn more by visiting this State Landmark which is also on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Parking is on any side street. There are nearby eateries and C-Stores for food and fuel, too. Please enter at the Trailhead coordinates to avoid walking on private property.
There are many caches on the nearby Mascoutin Trail, as well as 2 established peony caches nearby.
