We wanted to break the record for most caches found in one day in Wisconsin. Based off of a WGA thread, the highest number I could find was 116 in one day in Wisconsin. Today we got our chance.

My wife and I enlisted a friend and planned a route around the “Geocaching Capital of the Midwest” in West Bend, WI. We had no idea what was possible – 10-12/hr maybe if we were really moving fast. We had a babysitter so we hoped for good weather (scattered T-storms), and woke up early at 4 AM to make the one hour drive. We picked 150 traditional caches of 3 stars difficulty or less that had been recently found and set a limit of 5 minutes searching per cache. All three of us in one car working together.

To make a LONG day a short story we ended up finding/logging 164 caches in one day with only 12 DNFs all day. We added some caches on our way home because we were ahead of schedule, but all were done in Washington Co. We started caching at 4:56 AM and ended at 5:24 PM because we were becoming delirious. I had another 90 minutes logging all of the caches when I got home.

The hardest part was keeping up energy and interest. Overall the day was rewarding to see how many we could find, but it wasn’t the most interesting geocaching day for us. Lots of P&Gs.
