Ok y’all… anyone have any ideas on what area or areas need CITO. IOver the winter is a great time to think about getting events ready fort he new year. I have not been to a CITO yet and I am not aware of any areas in great need. ALSO… they don’t necessarily need to be over EarthDay week. We can hold one where and whenever.
SO… Now taking ideas!!
12/04/2006 at 3:12 am #1767243Well Fu how about the lakefront over your way? Or I suppose we could do the Appleton Parks and invite our friendly alderman.
12/04/2006 at 3:30 am #1767244I would suspect most Parks and for sure the Lakeshore could always use some CITO. Perhaps a good place to start would be an area where cachers are having a difficult time getting approval from the DNR to place caches?
12/05/2006 at 2:34 am #1767245You’d be surprised…. most places around here are pretty darn clean. Maybe I’ll do some contacting before spring to get some ideas, then go from there.
12/05/2006 at 3:07 am #1767246Maybe some of the county parks managers would have a good Idea as to what parks need cleaning.
P.S. I’d be willing to help out on this project.
12/06/2006 at 3:23 am #1767247Thanks for offering Jim.
It’s funny.. I have been to various cache locations that REALLY needed it, but have nto come across a general area and I’m pretty observent of that. I DO kow that there use to be a mess down on the beach at Two Creeks Buried Forest, but last time I was donw there it was cleaned up.
12/06/2006 at 3:41 am #1767248I notice a lot more trash in spring when the snow melts. I wish I could just place it not that the snow is back.
An area that stuck out to me this summer was Manitou Park. Between the trash from the fisherman along the river to all the litter in the woods finding the final. That might be a good place to start.
12/06/2006 at 4:44 am #1767249I know the Lakeshore of North Beach in Racine could use a clean-up. Probably too far away for most Northeast Norteasterns to travel though. I’ve been in the area three times in the last couple of weeks before the snow and noticed lots of trash. I picked up what I could and even got a few cache containers out of it. I would suspect most of the trash comes from Illinois and Michigan 😆 and gets washed up on the shore. I was also in Bong State recreation area recently and noticed various parts that had old parts of vehicles and miscellaneous trash about. This is a huge park though and would be hard to pick a particular area to CITO until next spring or the snow melts so the areas with the greatest amount of trash can be seen easier. I also know that Chapla and Cliffside parks both on the Lake and in Racine could use some help. For sure Chapla could, there is in one particular area where I have a cache that it is really bad. Almost looks like it was a dump at one time.

A good area to maybe suggest for your territory. Would be neat if we could coordinate a CITO each week in the spring or during the same month as Earth Day.
12/07/2006 at 12:07 am #1767251I will also help out on this event. If it could coincide, with earth day, maybe we could get some recognition as well. Not that we need it, but positive is always better than negative.
Sign me up.

12/07/2006 at 12:47 am #1767252A very worth while event. Many parks in this area could use a sprucing up in spring. It’s always fun to get together with other caches. Please put us down for two.
12/07/2006 at 12:48 am #1767253What I might do, come Jan or Feb, is have Meet & Greet/Pre-CITO meeting so we can get all our ideas together. In the mean time, anyone interested in helping out and gathering info, by all means go ahead and start investigation. The more STUFF we have gathered before hand the better. Then we can let the areas know for sure what we have planned and when.
12/31/2006 at 4:33 am #1767254How about this one? THough by the looks of it, we could turn it to an annual thing here. Its way out of the way park-n-ride type place but it was a mess and now looks like the cache has gone missing. Lots of spent fireworks and empty beverage containers.
I didnt even let my 6yr old out of the truck to help find it.

Small one probably could be done in 3-4 hours depending on the number of hands.
12/31/2006 at 6:21 pm #1767255Just to put it out there.. as an option.. i know that NW Ohio Geocacher’s adopted a section of a Highway and hold a Cito Event once every couple months not sure of the exact timeline but its somewhere around there! Maybe we could do that somewhere around here..
12/31/2006 at 9:30 pm #1767256Coastie has a Great Idea, However I doubt it will work. Unfortunately!! I belong to Amateur Radio club in Green Bay that does the same thing. Everybody wanted to do it, and about three people out of well over 100 actually show up, and it is always the same people.
I am not saying it would not work, as I would be there every time, but I know a bunch of other people that have tried this, and they don’t get the people to support it. Everybody is for it until they realize they will hav to work.
Justin
Great Idea though Coastie. I would be up for it…
