I have never found or seen a Jeep in a cache and I have only discovered 2 Jeeps at an event.
06/17/2007 at 2:44 pm #1876045I’ve never understood the idea of hoarding these bugs. Its not like geocoins, where the items have some monetary value. I think that most of the people doing this are planning on releasing them in their new caches, but never get around to placing those caches.
That said, if you really want to find these, they are out there. Just search for caches closest to your home and scan the list for jeeps. There are currently at least two green jeeps very close to your house, Jim.

The problem here is that there are cachers who are hording them. I know of two active cachers that have found 600+ and 1100+ caches each…
The second cacher has now moved the jeeps. 😀
Now if the cacher with 611 finds and 4 jeeps in his pocket will…06/18/2007 at 12:28 am #1876047I still need a white one.
06/18/2007 at 3:29 am #1876048The one I had is currently living in the Windy City. It jumped the border back in April, gone to Indiana and back to Chi-town where it waits to move to another cache. Maybe to a cache near you…..

06/18/2007 at 2:53 pm #1876049I’ve only seen the jeeps from the first year … not run into any since, even if a cache listing claims there is one in there.
06/19/2007 at 5:02 pm #1876050I went months before I found my first Jeep in “the wild.” Now I run into about one a month.
The Ecorangers “Jeep TB Hotel” has a white, a yellow three green Jeeps waiting to be discovered or traded. It is a Jeep only Hotel, so don’t try to swap any old TB for a Jeep. You don’t need a Jeep TB to visit but you need one to grab a Jeep out.

I thought TB’s were not trade items but I could have read wrong.
06/19/2007 at 9:56 pm #1876052You didn’t read wrong, but certain people place caches where they insist that you only take a travel bug if you leave a travel bug. These are often referred to as travel bug prisons, since the bugs often cannot escape. In general, this practice is considered somewhat unfair to the owners of the travel bugs, who want to see their bugs move, rather than sit static in a cache somewhere to “maintain the population”. This is less of an issue with jeeps, as I doubt that Chrysler really cares all that much about how many miles a jeep travels. They just want the publicity.
Of course, the cache owner really has no way to enforce this “policy”, so when you encounter one of these caches, just do what you feel is right.
06/19/2007 at 10:22 pm #1876053We set our first jeep free last year and it lasted for just two caches. It is in the hands of a cacher, but not released back into the wild since October of 2006. Oh well hope they can live with that. I believed that at least two other cachers were able to see it before it ended up as someones goody bag.
You know what now that I think of it I am sending an email to the cacher to release it, again.
Just checked on the only jeep we found in the wild and placed into another cache. That lasted just two caches also and has been kept since September.
Sometimes I ask, is this really worth it. Go buy a Jeep from Wal-mart.

And order the red one to release! 😀

I thought the Hotel was neat because you at least know where you can find some of these elusive creatures. I don’t trust when a cache shows a Jeep in it’s inventory unless I see that it was just placed there. Even then, I’ve seen them go “poof” only hours after being dropped into a cache.
Traded was a bad choice of words. I should have used the word swap. Then again they mean the same thing. Tami is going to kill me for bringing their names into this.
I wish I could learn to keep my big fat fingers quiet.
Anyway, at least you know of a cache where you are almost guaranteed to discover some cool Jeeps. I’d much rather see them in the Hotel than sitting on a table at an event.

You are correct sir, buy local, I have changed the quote.
06/25/2007 at 5:11 pm #1876058Wow we got a jeep tb today in the mail. Amazing I just bought a jeep grand cherokee last week, now I get one in the mail free. Can’t wait to send it on it’s way. Does anyone know the codes to activate them?
