Is canoeing or other types of boating doable?
02/24/2007 at 9:48 pm #1768719We do not allow motors on our lakes and do not have boat launches in the
park so carrying in your boat is your only option. Most visitors bring
canoes or kayaks or an occasional row boat on our lakes.P Michael D. Bergum

It is an easy 100 ft (or so) carry from the parking lot to the lake created by the old fish hatchery dam. This is located adjacent to the main camping area (not the group camping sites).
We paddled around one evening in the fall and the water was so clear you could see right to the bottom like a glass bottom boat ride. It is a very small lake but fun to paddle around on in any case. There is also the beautiful chain of lakes (some 20 connected lakes) located within a few miles of the park. The upper chain is small boats only with a small stream that can be paddled to access the main chain of lakes. In the summer it is great fun to just walk along and pull your kayak along the stream but at the time of the campout I would suspect that may be a little cold on the feet. There are a couple of small boat access points to the upper chain very near the park. If you’d like I can try to get coords for the landings.
02/28/2007 at 7:37 pm #1768721Hooray!! We will be able to come! Dates changed for a scouting event I’m helping put on. We will have 4 there for sure, possibly more depending on who I can get to go.
Thanks!!

😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀03/07/2007 at 4:12 pm #1768722I would love to go any thoughts on what spot we should reserve? Hartmans creek fills up fast… I surprised there are still spots left
03/07/2007 at 4:49 pm #1768723If you are tent camping, there will be spots available in the group sites that we have reserved (registration is not yet set up for this yet). But if you’re wanting your own site or are using a camper, you will have to go through Reserve America to find the perfect spot.
I’ve only tented in the group sites, so I’m not sure what sites are best. I know that the showers in the family site are nice and centrally located though.
Someone will pipe up with recommendations, I’m sure.

Hmmm. Guess I had better reserve something. Nice little PUP in your avatar BTW.
03/08/2007 at 12:24 am #1768725I have been camping here for a long time…20+years. and all of the regular sites are very very nice!!! the central section are in an orchard type area the east end and the west end are in tall standing pines, so i guess whatever type of woods you like they kinda have! The wife (Jenn) and myself along with opus2112 and another one of us, we are going to be way on the east side in a double site. If you have any questions about the campground just ask away! See ya’all there!

AKA rush-211203/08/2007 at 1:23 am #1768726The PCFrog gang will be at our own site for the 1st time. We been staying in the group site for the past 4 times so we decided to try something different
03/13/2007 at 10:43 pm #1768727Quick Question:
As you can see I’m just a WGA friend. Can I still attend your shin dig?03/13/2007 at 11:44 pm #1768728Yes. It’s not only for the WGA but the surrounding community in other states. All are welcomed and I believe the WGA just ask that people register in advance. Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong on this.
03/14/2007 at 1:21 am #1768729Friends are always welcomed!
Yes, we will have registration set up soon where you will be able to register for the event and for the two evenings of camping at the group sites.
If you’re not a group camper, you can reserve a family site at the park or “Trudy Camp” at an area Motel6. Or, just come for the day!
Either way we welcome anyone and everyone!

05/14/2007 at 8:11 pm #1768731Here’s to the gang going to the camp-out this time around. Sorry to say Anne and I will not be able to attend but our thoughts are with you… Hopefully the weather holds and all have a fun and safe time… We certainly don’t intend on making a habit of this not being able to make it mumbo-jumbo!!
Anyhow, have a great time friends!!!

If you can provide those coordinates, that would be great.
