    From the Thread-Stealers’ thread…

Vegas Gamblers wanted to know what the color was like in other parts of the state.

    Post yours here.

Central Wisconsin (between Wisconsin Rapids and Wisconsin Dells):

Early maples are getting bare, other maples still good, nut trees and ash are yellow.

Peak should be this coming week for everything but the oaks, especially if there is wind and rain. If you have to come on the weekend, Oct. 10-12 should be the best, but still good color Oct. 17-19.

    North Central – Merrill/Tomahawk:

Sounds similar to Rapids above. I think this is the last Great Weekend of fall colors. They’ll still have some colors int he following few weekends, but this is the peak weekend.

For those that want the best fall colors in this area, I recommend Turtle Lake Road in Harrison Hills and Shingle Mill Road located between Rhinelander and Gleason.

All the trees in my backyard are still green and they don’t drop their leaves until after it snows a couple times. Then I fill up the entire (a good 75 feet) front of my house along the road with a pile thats as wide as my truck, 5 feet high. 3 giganto maples in my backyard.

    Ahhhhh… Fall. Beats shoveling snow!

    Just got back from the
Park Falls-Mellen area. The colors were pretty impressive, at least in my opinion. They were far better than anything I’ve seen in southern WI the last 3 years. Was a little shocking visiting the mid 20’s already though.

NW wisconsin around Grantsburg is approaching peak color. Some of the maples are already past peak but many other trees are just turning now. Not a lot of all green leaves around (except for the oaks and evergreens).

South Central Wisconsin: Still quite green, but a noticeable number of leaves are now yellow. Plenty of gray skies.

Peaked this weekend while I (the Mrs.) was in MO on a non-caching trip with girlfriends. The trip back yesterday was beautiful around Wausau. Hoping the rain does not knock all the leaves off.

Thanks for making this a thread sandlanders and thank you to all for the reports. On Thursday we are heading towards the Dells, well actually Ho-Chunk Casino, we may have to take the scenic route.

The colors were pretty good along the interstate between the Dells and Mauston today, even in the rain. Maples in the wet areas are the best right now. Oaks still pretty green.

VG, if you’re doing Ho-Chunk, try out the mian entrance to Devils Lake State Park south of Baraboo. If that has turned (usually is later, though), it’s a nice batch of maples down to the lake area, which also has good color in the specimen maples. Sky-High Orchard (SWof park) usually has good apples and PIE!

The colors here – western WI/Bjornson area/I94 75 miles from the Twin Cities- have suddenly exploded overnight. Driving through the rain today on horse calls, absolutely dazzled by the colours.

Bjornson is going to be gorgeous this weekend!

Any chance we might see an appearance by Cheezehead??

Did an hour of leaf-peeping today–gorgeous in the sunshine!

Well I was disapointed when we pulled up to the Merrimac ferry and it was closed. I was really looking forward to driving into Baraboo on Hwy 113. We just had to continue west to Hwy 12 and saw alot of beautiful areas as we travelled into Baraboo. It wont be long before the southern part of the state gets colorful.
