Just found out you are looking for help. I can be of assistance. I live by Lostboys5 but I work right here in Cornell.
Thank you Team Northwoods and thank you Lostboys5. We really appreciate the help. Many hands make light work, and it is thru the generous donations of our members time that we are able to sponsor so many first rate geocaching events.
Thank you.

Not trying to be snarky here but maybe that should have been taken into consideration before picking the location. Not too many local cachers around them parts. I’d love to help, but that aint local for me.
Not to be snarky, but check out the locations of Wisconsin’s state parks on this handy dandy map by the DNR:
http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/findapark.html
As far as I can tell, there are no state parks in Sawyer County, so it is not possible to make our annual picnic “local” to you. It is however north of 64.

07/26/2011 at 10:00 pm #1949088my suggestion would be to explore a bit more in the farther quadrants. Wausau is the geographical halfway point of the state (approx), yet we still haven’t had an event beyond that.
We have also had 5 parks that have hosted MULTIPLE WGA events, either the Campout or the Picnic. Hartman Creek has hosted 3!
(not counting CITO or other WGA sponsored events that aren’t intended to rotate). We have “northwest events” that aren’t even in the northern half of the state. I have spoken to the Park Superintendent at Copper Falls and he would love to host an event in the park. I’m sure Pattison or Amnicon could also handle it.
I also look at southern events and see places we keep going to over and over. Has anyone considered Yellowstone Lake? Lake Kegonsa?

One of the limiting factors is that we need a state park that has a shelter. The DNR has a list of parks that have shelters.
I agree that Copper Falls would be a great place for a future event, and it has been considered.
Pattison and Amnicon were also considered, especially Pattison because it has Wisconsin’s highest falls and has one of the best shelters in the state. But Pattison is nearly to Superior, and therefore it would end up, in my judgement as a mistake to have an event there, since very few Wisconsin geocachers could afford to drive that far for a one day event. Personally, I will end up making a half dozen trips to Brunet to set up the picnic there, and at 2 hours RT, I can afford to donate that time. I cannot afford to donate the 6 hours RT it would take to go to Pattison, and I don’t see anyone else chomping at the bit to do that either. So, for now, Pattison is a no go unless you know someone who wants to do the work of setting up the event.
As far as Yellowstone Lake and Kegnosa goes, does either have a shelter? Both are in general proximity to Governor Dodge, and right now the tenatative plan is to return to Governor Dodge next spring, to celebrate our 10th anniversary by returning to where the first WGA was held.
Also, the center of the state geographically, is in fact Pittsville. Both Hartman and Brunet are north of Pittsville so it is an error to say that we do not have events in the northern half of the state.
Thanks for your questions and help looking into Kegnosa and Yellowstone Lake.

07/26/2011 at 10:49 pm #1949090factually it’s wrong to say they haven’t been in the northern half… but only 30 minutes from the center line? that means I’m still only halfway home. I also checked the math from Madison to Cornell and then Madison to Mellen, and it’s only 40 more minutes to get to Copper Falls… it helps traveling straight north.
here’s some quick info on Yellowstone Lake:
The park has 128 family campsites, five group sites, nine picnic areas, a reserveable shelter building, a swimming beach, two boat landings, and a canoe launch.
Kegonsa:
96-unit family campground
Six group campsites
Swimming beach
Boat Launch
Two reservable picnic shelters
Pet swim area

Picnic areas07/27/2011 at 2:03 am #1949092I have messaged several people with caches located around Cornell so hopefully we can get some more people involved and aware of the event that way. Abe from Abe and Carly mentioned that that weekend is opening bow hunting so we will need to be sure that everyone is aware of that if they cache outside of the park. Just something more to think about. Yay! I’m excited to have a picnic in Cornell!
07/27/2011 at 2:42 am #1949093I’ll be available to attend and help out with the picnic. Count me in!
I’m excited, as I VERY recently added “11” caches 5 miles north of Cornell, around Lake Holcombe and will have more planted by then.Jeff Grosvold

Plus I see you have a bunch of new caches coming out by Cornell, which I hope to go check out on Friday when I return to Brunet to talk to the rangers again.
Ought to be fun.

Ralph, I NEVER said Sawyer County. There Twin Lakes Campground (FED)in Drummond (Bayfield) There is Togatic County Campground in Minong(Washburn) Interstate Park in St Croix Falls and many others parks if you look. For guy who has pretty much hit most every cache in Wisconsin, you should know where they are. And just for your info, there is a county & a couple of town parks in Sawyer County that could work. Fish Hatchery & Silverthorn have shelters that could host a Picnic. Is it written sownwhere that it HAS to be held at a State Park?

As far
zumaBut I bet if there was a couple of FTF’s ya could right? And who know’s, maybe if ya asked us HICKS from dA Nort, maybe we could get enough bodies and to pull it off. So you pretty much summed it up, if it’s not in the central or souther part of the state, an event not gonna take place, because the WGA is for those areas. cuz that where all the important people live. OK thanks for finally admitting that. Conversation done.
And BTW, EVEN if the event was held in my back 40, I would be able to attend, becuse I have 4 different weddings to deliver flowers to that day.07/27/2011 at 10:49 am #1949098@cheezehead wrote:

Not sure why you have posted 3 times on an event that you say you cannot attend.
