September 22nd is the date for the 2012 WGA Picnic, located at Pike Lake State Park east of Hartford in SE Wisconsin. Pike Lake is the same State Park that the 1st WGA Picnic was held at 10 years ago. The Picnic Committee has started the early planning for ushering out our 10th year and moving forward into the next decade.

Watch for more updates and registration info in the coming weeks!

Actually it will be 11 years ago. The first picnic was held Aug. 26, 2001. 😀

Why isn’t Pike Lake State Park listed in my state parks guide?

Good to hear the picnic is close to home at Pike Lake… and this year no family wedding to prevent me from attending!

It’s part of the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit. http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/pikelake/

Pike Lake is a State Forest and not a State Park. I believe it’s also not part of the Northern Southern Kettle Moraine, but independant of the Northern or Southern.

Also for anyone who might be interested in camping there that weekend their campsites are always full from Labor Day until the mid-October closing. It’s a very hard park to get into in fall. They only have 30 sites and 11 are already reserved for that weekend.

Does the State Park sticker work for admission, is there an admission fee, or is it free?

State Parks admissions sticker is good, and is required (hourly, daily, annual).
