The Geocoin Committee has been busy these last 2 weeks, narrowing the selection of design from 9 submissions down to 3. The 3 remaining designs have been submitted to the vendor for artwork updates and costs associated with minting. This will be the deciding factor on which one of the 3 we will use to commemorate the WGA 10th anniversary.

A huge thank you to the members that submitted designs for the contest. Any of the 9 submitted entries would make great geocoins! The Committee and the BOD bantered back and forth on just how to narrow them down in a timely process. It wasn’t easy!

We will keep the membership posted on the progress of these very collectable WGA geocoins. The 10th anniversary only comes once!

I can’t wait to see the final design. When should they all be produced by?

      #1959960

They will be ready for the WBCB!

Darn, too late for me. I’m gonna have to have someone pick me up a couple this year. I’m gonna be out of country by then.

        Just to update you…

We are having a few issues with the artwork on the coins. We want this to be a special, high demand coin, so we want it done right, while being cost effective.

        Please stand by…

The Geocoin Committee has chosen the top 3 coin designs of the 9 submissions that were received.

Our 1st choice had some artwork issues that were going to take time to develope and modify, and could have put us behind schedule by several weeks. This is the reality of minting geocoins and can be frustrating and disappointing.

We moved on to our 2nd most popular choice and the samples are being struck. We should see these samples the first week in July. After seeing and selecting 1 of the 6 samples, we hope to announce the winning design and post a photo of the geocoin at that time.

The BOD is also considering pre-sales in the WGA Store to help determine the demand for this WGA 10th Anniversary coin.

Any idea when they will be available for purchase? During our vacation to Hawaii we had several local cachers welcome us into their geocaching ohana (family) so I’d like to buy them each a WGA geocoin as a thank you. It’s either that or send them some cheese and beer.

The Geocoin Committee has done it’s work and the WGA 10th Anniversary geocoin is in production. It will be offered in antique gold or antique silver, with forest green on the letters.

The winning design was submitted by jjcool719. He will receive a geocoin for his submission.

The coin minting will take place over the next few weeks, with hopes of offering them at the West Bend Cache Ba$h. Our WGA members SHOULD have access to online orders before that time. Watch for the WGA Store to be open in the next week or 2 for obtaining your coins!

Below are pictures of the antique gold geocoin. The coins will be minted 50/50 between gold and silver.

I’m curious how big they are? From the looks of them they are huge. But I’m thinking they are the normal size… Am I right?
