Working to organize the annual Appleton CITO event which I haven’t been able to attend for a number of years as it always fell on Earth Day and I had other commitments.
Since nothing looks to be on the books this year for that weekend (for Appleton), I have asked the WGA to help sponsor the event, only it will be in the early part of May instead. THis will allow those attending the Adopt-a-Highway event to make both, if they choose.
I am interested in knowing if there are other valley cachers willing to lend a hand in organizing and facilitating the event. I know that -cheeto- always had his hands full and appreciated all the help he could get.
This event has grown annually and I prefer to keep the scale large and all encompassing, but that means huge participation to cover the city’s many parks. I envision a few zones in the city with a few zone leaders to manage the park clean-ups. Since I haven’t been for a number of years, I could use the experience of a few of you who have and want to help out again.
I also plan to solicit the assistance of Park and Rec in a little larger capacity, but don’t know yet what that will look like. More to come.
Please leave comments about potential participation, ideas, offers to assist and the like on this thread.

Following the signals from space.
04/06/2014 at 6:35 pm #1975681That’s what I was thinking myself, wait too long and you start having issues with new growth, but given the slight delay in spring weather, I think we can push it out another week to Saturday, May 3rd.
04/07/2014 at 12:50 pm #1975682We can help too. I don’t remember what time these usually start and my son has football saturday mornings until 9 but we would be there after that.
04/12/2014 at 3:20 am #1975683The 8th Annual Appleton Parks CITO is on!GC528WT. This year we are teaming with Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance to bolster their numbers and hopefully get 1000 participants to help clean up parks and trails along the entire Fox-Wold Riverway from the mouth of Green Bay to Lake Winnebago!
That’s an immense amount of territory to cover, to be sure. If you are from any of these communities you evan be part of our event by joining any of their park locations by visiting their registrations site. You even get a free T-shirt for participating. I wil honor Attended logs for anyone who takes part in the Watershed clean-up event on the 26th, even if you can’t make it to Telulah Park (and that goes for anyone who makes it to the Hwy 10 clean-up as well) provided you register on the FWWA site beforehand as a member of the Appleton Area CITOcachers team! See the event listing for more details.
Let’s see if we can top our best of 116 and help the FWWA top their laudable goal of 1000!!
