So, Earth Day is nearly upon us and typically a few weeks beforehand I check the event calendar to see what is going on around the state on this active day for CITO-cachers. Imagine my surprise to discover that up until a couple weeks ago, there were NO CITO events on the calendar in the entire state! Since then, our Fox River CITO and the South Milwaukee CITO events have been published, thankfully. But, where are the rest?
One of the easiest and most significant means of promoting goodwill and the benefits of this geocaching – showing that we care about our environment and bettering the communities we live in – is to get out and clean up a public green space. Doesn’t matter if it’s a small city park, a stretch of shoreline or even a bit of highway. They all need help this time of year.
I would encourage everyone from all corners of the state to consider hosting and publishing a CITO event in your neck of the woods. Anyone who participates either on Earth Day weekend or the following weekend, earns an Earth Day CITO badge, but far more important then that, you earn the respect and admiration of your neighbors and your community at large!
If you can’t host one, try to get to one of the few that are happening over here on the East side of the state. If that’s not an option, consider caching on the 22nd and bring a few bags with you to do you own micro-CITO. The Earth with thank you!
