We have heard that some have some feedback from the Fall Picnic. Always feel free to reach out to a BOD if you have any ideas/suggestions/feedback or include in event logs. Also feel free to post here as well. Feel free to include any feedback here if desired.

09/23/2020 at 1:26 pm #2067218I heard several comments from people who enjoyed having the camp out in the fall instead of spring.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
09/23/2020 at 5:44 pm #2067221I absolutely loved having the campout in the fall as opposed to the spring. The weather is so much more cooperative. I would love to see the picnic be in the spring and the campout in the fall in the future!
Thank you to all the BOD members who worked tirelessly to put the events on! You are greatly appreciated.

09/23/2020 at 6:01 pm #2067222I echo lacknothing’s comments and would support switching the picnic and camping events. The family loved coming up and camping for the weekend. Fall is a beautiful season in Wisconsin for a long weekend road trip.

09/23/2020 at 7:55 pm #2067224I’d like to see the picnic and campout dates switched as well, with future campouts in the late summer/fall and the picnic late spring/early summer. The reason is this:
The 3-day spring campout event is always cooler weather, sometimes with snow or frost still on the ground. It makes it tough to camp overnight for many folks that aren’t used to cold-weather tent camping. Traditionally the campouts have been during that time. I’ve only been to 7 or 8 WGA campouts, but I seem to recall almost every year there being frost and/or rain at night.
The weather is usually nice for the late summer/early fall 1-day picnic event, which has traditionally been during that time.
Why not have the better weather (fall) for a 3-day event so we can enjoy the fall colors for up to three days, and the more challenging weather (spring) for the 1-day event, where overnight camping isn’t practiced by most? (Of course, geocachers are allegedly hardy outdoors folks in any weather, right…?)
Historically speaking, the first picnic took place late summer (8/26/2001) but there weren’t any campouts back then. The following year and ever since, the WGA continued the tradition of a late summer/early fall picnic. But in 2002 the WGA added a spring campout to go along with their “fall” picnic. It’s been that way ever since, since that’s how it started. But weather-wise, it really seems to make sense to switch dates so that the campout would be scheduled for the fall (Aug or Sept) and the picnic scheduled for the spring (May or June).
09/23/2020 at 8:35 pm #2067225I’d prefer spring picnic and fall camping. Fall is typically drier for camping.
09/23/2020 at 8:57 pm #2067226I echo everyone’s sentiments…camping in the fall. I usually camp for the fall picnic anyway but have never camped in the spring.

09/24/2020 at 7:32 pm #2067231I like the idea of fall camp out and spring picnic. I assume that if a change is made, the TB race and other activities traditionally associated with the picnic would move also?
09/24/2020 at 9:28 pm #2067232My how things change!
The BOD considered switching these several years back and posted a poll for the members (some of us thought the weather would be nicer if we flipped them). We left it the same, per the majority of the members that voted.
New members; new opinions?
I voted to switch then and support it now, since no poll has been posted yet.

It’s difficult to get a majority to trust change until they get a taste of it. That’s just the way life is.
