The Board of Directors is proposing changes to the WGA Bylaws. Please review the current, and the proposed changes (links below). This proposal is being posted here for review by the WGA membership for a period of at least seven days before the Board will hold a vote on whether to approve the changes. Given the proximity to the holidays, we are not likely to vote until after the first of the year, so you have plenty of time to provide feedback. If you’re not comfortable posting here, feel free to reach out to directly to me or any other board member.
With these proposed changes, there are four main areas of focus – Elections, Committees, Technology, and Leadership.
- Elections section adds new language to explicitly call out how to handle multiple tie-breakers, and who shall oversee the Election process.
- Committees section is a new addition to the Bylaws. Its goal is to provide a framework to which committees are created, operated, and closed. This also clarifies some of the Vice President’s role in committee oversight.
- Technology is also a new addition to the Bylaws. The goal here was to provide guidance on what technology shall be used and secured.
- Leadership has minor language changes to better define the organizational structure between President and Vice President roles.
Lastly, a section regarding membership has been clarified, which explicitly calls out “WGA Friends” and their role as community members. These are members who would not meet the normal definition of “Member”, but still would like to participate in WGA activities (such as out of state members)

The WGA would like to thank Carson (ACME_WildCachers) for taking time to assist us with many great discussions, and the write up of these proposed Bylaw changes. Having worked on the current Bylaws, and previously serving on the Board of Directors helped a great deal in ensuring these changes were crafted appropriately.
The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA Board of Directors

I do have one minor suggestion – defining the order of “ranking officer.” The proposed revision currently states “The highest-ranking officer of the current Board of Directors who is not a candidate themselves shall oversee elections.” The president and vice president are obviously the highest ranking officers, but which officer is next after that – treasurer or secretary?
12/18/2023 at 4:02 pm #2072290Hi John,
Reviewing the ByLaws show in order President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
12/25/2023 at 8:21 am #2072328After reviewing the proposed bylaws, I think John is correct in noticing that the order of ranking officers is not explicitly stated. The offices are listed in a certain order, which implies the order but does not clearly enumerate it. I don’t think that it is a big deal either way.
Very nice job on cleaning up a few ambiguous things.

Article XVI: WGA Friends
Individuals who do meet the eligibility requirements to become full members of the WGA but otherwise support the purposes detailed in Article II may become a WGA friend by registering for an account on the WGA website.
