As of today, there are about 19569 caches in Wisconsin, with about 100 new ones coming out each week. That means, sometime in December Wisconsin will go over 20K caches.

11/02/2011 at 11:32 pm #1954241Wow – I had no idea WI had so many guardrails.
11/02/2011 at 11:39 pm #1954242and a 100 new guardrails to boot each week.
Those county crews are sure busy11/03/2011 at 1:02 am #1954243Don’t be so cynical you two, I’m sure there are some in stop sign posts too.
On the Left Side of the Road...11/03/2011 at 2:00 am #1954244Wow… I vaguely remember a thread many years ago where people were amazed whenwe hit 1000 caches in the state.
11/03/2011 at 4:06 am #1954245I have some ammo cans in my garage. I may just have to set them out in the woods somewhere. Then maybe we can get you guys away from the guard rails and stop signs and out somewhere where you aren’t breathing all that car exhaust.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
11/03/2011 at 1:05 pm #1954246Other than our joke cache, we have hidden pretty much hikes in the woods and cemetery hides only. Those are what we enjoy most. Amazingly, the joke one has more hits and some people were even crazy enough to give it favorite points! But in defense of guardrails, there can be such caches that still get you to see a nice stream or overlook, and for the folks who are aging or have disabilities, such caches allow them to continue to play.
No one is forcing anyone to do the kinds of caches they don’t like. Some people enjoy that kind, obviously.
11/03/2011 at 1:23 pm #1954247I agree with T&B. Up until recently most of our 350 hides have involved hiking, are in the woods or were field puzzles. Not by plan we got involved in our “Old Silo Series”. They are P&G’s, but cachers can’t get enough of them. We are up tp something like 75 now in just 3 months. They are mostly micros hidden roadside, but within sight of an old lone standing silo with the barn no longer there. We get about 100 “found it” logs a week on thess which is double the finds on all of our other hides. Surprisingly very few of the logs are just TFTC. Some are quite lengthy and include photos. Several cachers are addicted to trying to find them all so we are spreading them all over to make it more challenging. We’ll still keep hiding hiking caches, but this has proved to us that everyone’s idea of a fun cache is different.
11/03/2011 at 2:44 pm #1954248Another quality/quantity thread starting? 🙄
Can’t we just argue about puzzle cache solving again instead? That was more fun.

11/03/2011 at 3:54 pm #1954250My post was tongue/cheek humor. I certainly didn’t intend it to be taken offensively and I apologize if anyone took it that way. My whole point was to basically say, “WOW. That’s a lot of things hidden in WI.”
I’m a puzzle hound and “off the beaten path” cacher. I’ve done my share of milestone prep simple urban hides, but they definately aren’t my favorites. I would definately be a hypocrite if I were to bash the guardrails / sign posts because I’ve not only done these P&G’s, but have found many puzzle finals in these same locations.

So did you find them all yet??
11/03/2011 at 6:16 pm #1954252Shane, I think Ralph’s still working on that one! Trekkin’ says he’ll quit when he’s found ’em all. 🙄
11/03/2011 at 9:26 pm #1954253My informal goal since I started has been to get every cache in specific areas (or at least all that I can figure out…). Door County where I reside, Eau Claire where I was born, and a 30 mile or so radius from my cottage. I would love to grab all the Wisconsin caches in a life time and know it’s probably a “BIG” dream. Maybe I’ll shoot for all those north of HWY 29. 🙄

West Bend is the capital for those types.
