Looking for some info on 24k maps vs. 100k maps. I’m looking to buy a new Garmin and I was wondering if 24k maps are too much detail for caching? I was reading about them and I’m kind of confused? The Garmin models with maps built in are all 100k maps. Not sure what to buy?
Anyone have an easy answer or website for this?
❓ ❓
I think it all depends on the type of unit use. I think all the newer Garmins use 100k. I have the new 62st and still not too sure about the maps. I sure others will chime in and give you more info.
24K maps are great. They are routable and just like the 100K they are not locked to one device. There is not to much detail.
Thanks
Looking online and I noticed that the 24k maps are split into chunks of the US. Wisconsin does not come with Minnesota or Iowa. Don’t we live in the midwest?
You will drive yourself to drink if you spend time trying to understand the marketing decisions of Garmin. To avoid this kind of silliness, my next GPS will probably be a Delorme.
And you will love it. I have had a lot of Garmins and still have 2 PN-60’s. The only Garmins I have now are 2 Nuvi 500’s. I think Delorme is a great fit for me.
Thanks
