I was talking with Sagasu today and we were toying with an idea for Cache Rescue…
After rescuing a cache, if the container is salvageable for reuse, why not use it for a rehide and get some “extra credit” for it in the Lonely Cache Game?
To get credit, you would need to post the Cache Rescue Mission number in the suffix of the cache title. Example: “JimandLindas Pine Tree Hide-CR1402”. This designates the reuse of a rescued container, which saves time, money, and stimulates some creativity on the new cache owners part. A paragraph on the cache page could mention what the suffix stands for.
If this was verified, it could have a bonus point value in the LCG of, maybe, 5 points.
Another use would be as door prizes at CITO Events, but the new CO would be at random, and not a Cache Rescuer.It is a good feeling to pick up dead caches and know that they aren’t out there, littering up Mother Nature’s backyard, and we would continue to do it, points or not.
So the 3Rs…Rescue, Reuse, Rehide.
I am hoping this post will get some more ideas out and encourage more cachers to rescue a few in their area!
