I will continue to give the same amount of respect to the initial LCG players as I do to the players with only 1 LCG find.

Now, sniping…that’s another thing all together!! 😉

But your right! Who’d a thunk that HP2 could amass that many points in 12 monthes?

The gauntlet is out! Will we get a new high water mark a year from now, from some yet-to-be-named cacher? Or will HP2 try to better themselves?

Either way, the cache community wins. Geotrash is removed and maintenance decisions are made on missing CO’s property. Or an out-of the-way cache is visited once more, and a nice log (or not!) is written.

I echo Jim’s comments. I do it because it’s fun and adds another element to the game. In my current scenario I don’t see any means to compete with the HP2 team, but that’s a bit irrelevent. I’ve got to experience some great caches (and some not so great) because of the LCG. Generally those that were “not so great” were because of CO maintenance issues. Those that “were great” were because of the challenge and/or location which has led me to bypass many caches that would easily give me more numbers.

It’s all in good fun. I see I came in 6th place last year. Not bad for a year I didn’t think I was going to play at all.

Had to give Dave a little jab for enticing me back in the game early on last year when he brought up the ALL time lead thing, which I too never really considered part of the contest.

As much as none of us want to admit it, there is some element of competition in this or there wouldn’t be any tallies in the first place. How much influence that has on our state of play we each determine in our own way.

I let myself get “into” that ALL time lead chase and probably put myself out there more that I should have last year because of it.

Sure is nice to sit back and watch from the sidelines now. This year’s goal? Beat -cheeto- and come in 71st!

Can’t say I didn’t have fun caching twilight through daybreak in the north woods or going on 36-hour LCG binges, but that train left a long time ago. Last year’s windows were only open for a few hours at a crack, save one memorable over-nighter 😉 and this year… let’s just say I have only one LCG cache on my radar and right now I fear it is encased in ice!

Like everyone who gets sucked in, I did have a blast playing and the competition was always in good sport, although a couple times when I sandbagged it did get a little dicey. I’d encourage everyone to play, just make sure you balance the things that really matter in this life with this past time and don’t let it tip the scale too far.

I may be done with the 3am moonlighting for points, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find myself placing a cache at that early hour.
