I just realized that several of those listed are my Earthcaches….now I’m really excited…..more traffic!

Cathedral Pines is on that list and I have a question….how would that be something you could get approved for an EarthCache? Don’t get me wrong, I love that area, but it seems more ecologically interesting than geologically interesting…

Yes, that is partially true, as the area is noted for it’s huge pines. Flora and fauna do not make an EC. But it begs the question: What is it about this place that makes it relatively infertile and able to support huge pines?

The answer is geological, and is in this document:

So, you see, it is possible to put an EC in Cathedral of Pines, if you wanted to do a little research.

Other possible ways to get an EC here, is to have it at the abandoned quarry nearby (there must be one, or why would there be a Quarry Road?), or perhaps on Quartz Hill. All kinds of possibilities.

Thanks Zuma. Your response was actually helpful. My question really should have been phrased as a 2-parter; one being the “how” and then a general question beyond this particular set of places outlined in this cache dealing with both the where and the how.

This should help with the ‘Where’, perhaps?

There are still two UNF locations in need of a nearby cache:
      1) Eagle Cave – Blue River
      2) Kickapoo Indian Caverns – Wauzeka
