It started as a challenge to our Northern Illinois cacher friends. The ole game of Capture the Flag. It was only out there less then one day and they sent up one of their top scouts to retrieve it. Lppd841 tried to attack the flag from the most tedious point and barely made it out with the treasure. Look for a new cache in Winnebago County this week that will have the flag that we Wisconsin Geocachers must retrieve and place back in Rock County.
If Lppd841 had failed – Team Jekputz was poised to attack tomorrow. I hope they put it someplace easy.

Very cool idea… I might have to move to Rock county though…

Anyone who wants to capture the flag for us (Wisconsin) – I will give you a good Rock county location to drop it off at on the way back through if you like.

It has also been pointed out to me (and thank you by the way) that Wisconsin also has a Winnebago County but the one for this game is in Illinois.

Oklahoma geocachers asked for permission to start their own version of this game (even though they did not need to) and will start it today in the Tulsa area.
Rumor has it that Capture the Flag II is all set in a very challenging location near Loves Park.

I see this topic has also made it to the Groundspeak forums http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=66711
I see that wildearth2001 says that the rivalry thing won’t work, he obviously doesn’t know about how long there have been Wisconsin/Illinois rivalries. Maybe it has something to do with Illinois moving their border 60 miles north and in the process taking land from Wisconsin Territory.
Wait…. That would mean that Winnebago County was originally in Wisconsin.

Rest assured, our flag is now home. The cost has risen for the flatlanders, as we have been left with no choice, but to “up the ante” after their devious hide. We shall do our best to serve the homeland defense.

I see that Cashing Out has placed the third cache in this series. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=9b73b2fa-5a5e-4dbe-ad45-2842be6db29c

It didn’t take the Illinois cachers long, they found the flag before 7am this morning.I hope the next hide can hold them off a little longer. Anyone wish to join up as a Badger Team to go after CTF-4?

Capture The Flag IV has been placed by Team Putz, in downtown Rockford. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=2c505034-44d6-4f1d-9d61-18ee94c6d68c

Come on you Wisconsin geocachers, lets go get this one from these devious cachers to the south.
I can´t wait to get back and find III & IV even if the flag is gone.

Alright, I confess. I couldn’t stop myself from going after it again. But, I only signed the log, and left the flag for someone else to rescue. I wanted to give another fellow cheesehead the opportunity to humilate those flatlanders again. Let’s show ’em what we’re made of. Ahhhhh….the power of cheese!

I was out there at 5:45 am looking for that thing! It ended up taking three pairs of eyes to find that thing! That was one well hidden cache! Too bad I couldn’t have taken it back to Kenosha with me even if I had been the one to spot it first…

The flag is back in Wisconsin!!

    Copy of my log:

I crossed the cheddar curtain with passport in hand, but no one seemed to care that I had crossed the border so I put it away. I found the flag in less than five minutes (I had checked a similar location at a previous cache) which left me wondering why this deserved a 3 1/2 star difficulty. I grabbed the cache and sat in a nearby location to sign the log. I then noticed what could have made this cache difficult. As I was sitting there waiting for a few people to leave the area, I watched six Rocford Police cars drive by. One actually parked across the street from me and the officer went inside the park district office. So it would appear that, in locating the cache only a few blocks from the police HQ, Team Putz was trying to have a Cheesehead arrested for suspicious activity. Well, now I have the flag, and after waiting ten minutes was able to replace the cache container. Now I just have to think up a good location for Capture The Flag V.

Edit: I added this line to my log
(Certain facts in the log above are exagerrated for story telling purposes only. In other words, you probably aren’t in danger of being arrested while searching for this cache.)

I placed Capture The Flag V today, and it is now in the approval process. I’ll be sending the Illinois teams to Magnolia Bluff County Park in the north west corner of Rock County.
