Load and go is all I do. I just pick a starting cache and give it hell. After the first cache, I don’t know where I’m off to next. No autorouting and no maps. I just go where the magic arrow points.
Of course, my starting cache will be in a highly cache rich area. That way I can’t help running into a cache any direction I head. 20 in 4 to 5 hours is no problem in most areas where you have not already depleted the numbers.
If you can’t find areas where there are 30 or more caches concentrated within a few miles; locate smaller pockets of caches in county parks. Grab 4 or 5 in one park and head to the next park. Repeat as many times as the sun and/or the park hours allow.

06/13/2007 at 11:25 pm #1875945If you go to Eau Claire and do Robin’s HBZ Series…. you can do at least 40 in a day. Plus the overwhelming majority of them are ammo boxes. A personal favourite! 😀

Great point, lagrac. Our biggest day was in Eau Claire doing some of the HBZ’s as well as others (42). Took about 10 hours just following the arrow and jumping from park to park. Lots of hiking but they are in some great areas. Were going back in about a week to finish HBZ’s, probably the day before Robin’s event.
06/14/2007 at 1:31 am #1875947Just remember new guys get the back seat of the caching Rig and When Frizz is back in action you’ll have to ride on the roof or provide us with a Ford F650 Excursion For the next adventure. We always plan high number days with Rsplash at the helm and KorpL,KS9WI,Frizz, Benny 4 digits and Myself Running from cache to cache. We don’t talk we only call HOOTIE. We can talk in the car…
Edited O Yeah and new guy provides the cooler of Refreshments

06/14/2007 at 2:58 am #1875950I dont do much preplanning, and dont do much sorting, unlike some of the others here, so i guess there are a variety of ways to get a bunch.
What I do, is load all the caches in a given area, with a PQ of 150 – 250 caches. I look thru it, delete the puzzles and the ones that havent been found for more than 3 months, then head out. That gives me good variety of cache types, and good variety of length of walk. if I had to do 30 Dead End’s or lamp post hides in a day, just to get a number, that would not be fun. i do this for fun, so I want some long walks, and i really want some interesting places. I dont mind stopping or a dead end or a lamp post along the way, but they are never the destination.

Hrmm…I do believe that would be you :>
06/14/2007 at 6:01 pm #1875952We used to do a lot of preplanning, but now we just load and go. Typically I look at an online map to make sure I know how to navigate to the first cache. After that, its just topo map navigation to the next closest cache, repeat until exhausion sets in. Of course, we aren’t necessarily trying to get huge numbers either. Our goal is usually to get one great cache in for the day (COTM or other recommendations from people), and then cache our way around the area. Whatever numbers we get, we get. I have enough goals in “real life”. Geocaching is supposed to be fun!
