I accidentially happened upon this listing in France … GC1WZK7 … if you scroll half way down it’s in english. Reading it and looking a the pictures where you pass your rope through, it looks like one heck of a challenge.

Then here is a site you might like.

They’re all REAL 5 star ★★★★★ Terrains… None of this 5 star Wisconsin stuff.

I don’t believe there is a single genuine 5-star terrain in this entire state.

Hmmmm…. I think I almost agree, save Broken Dam and Nifty Fifty, 2 underwater caches that CAN be done without gear, but not recommended…

Alex, Don’t you also have a cliff climb that requires technical climbing gear?

Hopes are high that in the next month or two, I’ll be doing such a cache in Duluth. Trekkin’ is coming along to collect the life insurance, LOL. I have seen a really extreme cache somewhere in Australia with straight down drops in narrow slots, more than one. Can’t remember anything about the listing right now, though.

I just wish there were more 5/5’s here theres 16 within a 100 mile radius

I forgot about SCUBA caches… Thats special equipment, but is it required? probably not. I think most healthy people should be able to swim 30 feet underwater simply by holding their breath without any specialized equipment.

GCW9KE Broken Dam is, according to the cache description, in no more than 15 feet of water. Sounds easy enough. I see previous finders have found it with Snorkel gear. I bet with determination I could find it with less.

Nifty Fifty GC1187E, based on the pictures, looks to be a bit more of a challenge than Broken dam. How deep is the water at GZ?

I was thinking more about island caches.
Because Wisconsin’s waters are neither Shark or Gator infested, a boat is never required because swimming is always an option.
No special equipment is required for swimming, is there?

Depends on a person’s swimming ability, I’d guess. We can swim, but if we’d tried to swim the over 1.2 miles to the first stage of a multi near Mosinee on wide open water, I think both of us would be the subject of someone’s WSQ by now. As the winds kicked up that day, even the canoe was a workout for us.

It’s easy to get persnickety about what’s *really* extreme, but for cachers, the 5 rating lets them make a decision about whether or not they want to gear up to get that one. We’re usually more often than not very willing to gear up. Others don’t want anything to do with that kind of thing. It’s not science, it’s just a game. For every over-rated 5, we’ve done at least as many under rated 1.5s, so it all evens out in the end. I’m just happy for anyone taking the time and effort to put out caches, whether they’re 1s or 5s.

Also, there have been some pretty nasty attacks in Wisconsin waters by big muskies. Like hundreds of stitches. So maybe not sharks, but danger does lurk in the deep! 🙄

To me the extremes get my attention … if it says “1” well then it might be a good choice for someone in a wheel chair (or some dork recovering from a broken knee cap), so to me it’s real important to get the “1” caches right … then the extreme of “5” to me means “ya better read this before you go out to try it” … everything in between is somewhat relative and sort of just fills the gap in the numbering scheme.

    Apparently I’m not a “healthy” individual. 😆

Right there with ya! maybe a distance of 30 feet but not a depth of.

my buoyancy tends to prevent me from getting too deep, but then again, I don’t float too well either… 😕 😕

My brother John lives in Seattle and he has some impressive Washington state hides. 😯 They have no shortage of mountains in which to get in trouble. Here’s one…
