I feel a little odd doing this I’m not big into coins or sales but Pennstategirl was a friend of mine and I wanted to get the word out on this very special geocoin. I have attached the notice I got from TRIGO my PA caching group.
Hello TRIGO,
I wanted to take this opportunity to unveil some plans that have been in the works since September. As many of you know, we recently saw the Pennsylvania Geocoins sell out quickly due to the growing popularity of the coins as collectibles. We also noted on our update page that there would be a very special auction upcoming, so here’s the news:
We wanted to do something special, so we had the minters make six very unique Black Nickel PA coins*. One reason was to give a momento to those who worked hard on the project, but the most important reason was to try to call some national attention to a very special local cause.
As you already know, Sherri McGibbon (aka pennstategirl) was tragically killed in a car accident this past September. Although she’s deeply missed by friends and family alike, her spirit and enthusiasm for geocaching was apparent in her logs, and through those fortunate enough to have met her.
So, in that same spirit of geocaching, we’re hoping that by making only one such coin available on auction through eBay, the rarity of this unique collectible will help generate a sizable donation towards the Education Fund for Sherri’s two children. 100% of the proceeds of this auction will be presented to Alister McGibbon (Sherri’s husband) and The First Federal Savings & Loan of Greene County in the name of the winning bidder.
Appropriately, each coin was engraved with the initials “PSG” for
“pennstategirl”, and the last remaining coin will soon be presented to Sherri’s family.Folks, I ask that you please don’t take this as a request for bids, as the national interest in this coin will prove to be sufficiently overwhelming. Instead, please accept this as a warm reminder that the TRIGO geocaching community maintains its support for the McGibbon family, and that she’ll never be far from our memories and prayers.
Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
Dave* A photo of the Black Nickel coin has been uploaded to the Photo section here: http://tinyurl.com/ay9an
