A WGA only “game” idea? …
I will be directing an “Interactive Mystery Dinner” in mid-February, as a fundraiser for my youngest daughter’s school. My eldest daughter (the future author) wrote the mystery. I’ve directed/written mystery in my pre-geo days and “came out of retirement” just for this one. Anyway, my question:
IF I should decide to HIDE two tickets for the show/dinner ($50 total value) out in the world somewhere (ok, likely Ozaukee County) and then post clues on where they are hidden on the WGA website … a couple questions:
(1) To WGA “management”, is that an acceptable use of this website?
(2) Would people be interested in the “fun of the hunt” and try to find them.
Question #1 should be answered via a message here, from the the BOD or others with a strong feeling about it.
Question #2 should be answered via the attached POLL, but people within a logical distance of Ozaukee County.

01/17/2007 at 10:46 pm #1768601At one time there were a couple of Packer tickets in a cache, I believe. I think the placer had posted some information on the forums about them…
(off to check into this)

(I’m back from checking — there was a brief discussion about tickets in a cache, but they were for the Vikings, and so the discussion didn’t go very far.)
01/17/2007 at 11:41 pm #1768602Ron, would the clues/hints you give eventually lead to coordinates that you plug into your GPSr to find the tickets (Ã la puzzle geocache)? Or would the clues be something that would allow you to find them without a GPSr, maybe only with a compass, like in letterboxing?
01/17/2007 at 11:56 pm #1768603I’m always up for a puzzle or game….it seems as if I’m a bit competitive. 😉
01/17/2007 at 11:57 pm #1768604Friends of ours in Arkansas won a substantial monetary amount in a contest like this. There was a geocacher who would go to a park or other scenic area on a Saturday morning, and put the coordinates of his location on the Arkansas Geocaching website at 8 AM.
He would have a campfire going and the first three groups of geocachers to arrive at his location got 1st, 2nd, 3rd place monetary prizes. They then waited around in case others arrived and just had a nice get together around the fire.I think your ticket idea would be a fun game/puzzle. If it would be closer, we would give it a try.

(edit: sorry, trying to do 2 things at once and messed up the quote code)
01/18/2007 at 4:30 pm #1768606REGARDING QUESTIONS ON THE SPECIFICS OF WHAT I BEING DOING … I’m still in the thought stage … But yes, it would involve using your GPSr, but only for maybe the final approach (ie. the final piece of the N and W coordinates) … most likely you’d have to figure out a couple clues that would first get you to the general area using you ability to figure out the clues, only then would you break out the GPSr. But then again, I’ve not even figured out the hiding spot myself yet. It would NOT likely involve an existing geocache in any way … or for sure not hidden at a cache that’s out there.
MY UNANSWERED CONCERN … I’m semi-indirectly promoting the mystery by doing this … is this a No-No … no one has comment on that. Thinking it over, IF I were to do this … I think I’d spray out the puzzle/clues on my OWN webspace … but just provide an Announced link on the WGA website … that way those that don’t want to mess with this, would not see it cluttered on the WGA site.
