Nice job on your bookmark list. I would recommend that you change the name, however, from “Abandoned” to something like “Caches at Ruins”. The name “Abandoned” would cause some to think it is list of abandoned caches, and not look at it further. (Just a marketing hint!)

Regarding my Harrington caches, while the whole area is ripe with historical ruins, of the 10 caches these would be the ones specifically of a ruins nature:

GC13K2H … the Bridge lets you view the ruins below you (very cool)
GC1AXT6 … only the final for this multi is by a ruins
GC13FWY … it’s a secret, can’t tell you what it is in advance

In general the ruins are: ” … historical trail highlighting the history of the “Stonehaven” mining community once located in the park …”

Not sure if you want to include the UP of MI but we were in an area where the whole town was forced to move because the mining company was afraid the town was going to cave in. I think it was 100 years ago but would have to check exactly. Anyway the mines have now filled with water, the area is safe and they have opened the area to the public. Many ruins there and now the town’s folk’s are putting photos of what was at each site up. There are at least two geocaches there.

Just look at ANY of the cache pages. The bookmark link is on the right side of the page. They are all also listed on the “WGA Recommended” Bookmark list (also accessible from any of the caches listed here).

Do you want abandoned cemeteries? We have been to a few in the Keweenaw today. Amazing to see how overgrown and ignored they are.

I don’t see why not but I do believe there are a couple of cemetery bookmark lists. But if they are abandoned I would say they fit my criteria 🙂

Many of the caches we did in the past 3 days in the Keweenaw were of abandoned something or another… either mines, mine machinery from the 1800’s, farmsteads or cemeteries all abondoned for a long time. It is amazing how these things just get left and no one removes, repairs or does anything.

Maybe the MI guys could help you make a UP list as there are so many abondoned things from WWII prisoner camps, trains, factories to the aforementioned things.

There is a cache (GCZRKJ) {I’m not good @ linking so just look it up @ gc.com} in Kenosha located less than 300′ from an abandoned pumping station formerly used by the American Brass Co. The pumping station which is located on the shore of Lake Michigan, supplied the 100+ year old, 24 square city block sized foundry located in the heart of Kenosha, with process water… The main plant was razed from about 2002 to 2004… The Kenosha Water Utility absorbed the pump station property and is in the final abandonment stages prior to the demolition of the structure… As an employee of the Kenosha Water Utility I’ve been able to see the inside of the structure, and while it has been unused and in disrepair for many years, the 1920’s Frankenstein technology was cool to see… Check it out before it’s gone… The cache is located on a dead end street with private property on both sides, enjoy the view…
